How accurate are the T&C (Rules) and if a situation falls under one of the rules, must a ban be applied? ~Intro~ I'm writing this feedback post because it seems MapleRoyals has become more loose in allowing vulgar language since I last played a year ago. I see some staff members have vulgar language in their signatures, and reports of people getting sworn at dismissed because there's a chance the reporter is at fault. (I let the signature slip, but I won't stand and do nothing seeing people get offended by vulgar language and nothing being done about it.) ~Explanation~ Well rule 5 is still written the same way as it has been before I left, so I don't understand why things should be different now: "Engage in rude, unlawful, harassing, vulgar, obscene, hateful, threatening, abusive or otherwise objectionable behavior, including, without limitation, looting, kill stealing, making sexual comments; Punishment: 1st offence - 3 day ban, 2nd offence - 7 day ban, 3rd offence - permanent ban" If someone swears at you, I don't see how that behaviour could not be rude, vulgar, and objectionable. The person swearing has a choice. They can use a nice word to describe how the other person makes them feel. Example: "You're a real jerk you know that?" Or, they can choose to use some very mean words that constitute as vulgar and aren't accepted on MapleRoyals as proposed by Rule #5. There shouldn't be any questions asked when a report is made about someone using vulgar language at them, because the English language has countless acceptable words that could be used to describe how you feel, and in detail at that as well. The only thing using the f-word* will tell someone is "I AM ANGRY!!!!!!!!!". Your relationship will have trouble continuing from now on as the exact reason you're angry is unknown, and miscommunications are harder to resolve this way. *- When used in a derogratory way. Sincerely, -Oldie
Could you provide any examples of Staff members having signatures with vulgar language in them, and threads of reports where we didn't ban for someone breaking the rule you've mentioned?
http://royals.ms/forum/threads/adjustment-to-profanity-rule.1854/ Maybe this will help. We don't ban for swearing. It's only when it becomes offensive and especially unwarranted. If you reply and egg the person on and are obviously NOT offended in the ss you provide, that person probably won't be banned for harassment since you obviously didn't feel harassed. Vulgar in this sense would probably mean (would like confirmation from @Matt from.this) overly sexual or violent in nature, not a curse word here and there. We are here to make the community a nice place overall, not to spank a member who chooses to add a curse word here and there.
That link is from before Oldie started Royals, so it doesn't apply here. In reply to Oldie they never banned for vulgar language unless it was blatantly offensive and degrading to the person reporting. I don't see how this has changed.
This topic kind of bothers me. I'm not a fan of telling people what they can or cannot say. GMS tried really hard to censor bad words, and it got to a point where you couldnt have a straight conversation with someone without having to retype a thousand times because every bad word in existence was blocked. People should be old enough and mature enough to be able to talk to each other without using Vulgar words. But I get it, not everyone is. If they do use them, I don't really care. That's their prerogative. I don't get offended by words like shit or Damn. They're the lowest tier of bad words, mostly harmless replacement words for everyday words we use. I do however, have a hard time dealing with players who use ignorant Terms or Phrases that attack a persons nationality, sexual orientation or Race. These words are used by people to go beyond simple vulgarities to stab straight at you knowing they are using the worst of the worst in terms of words. They are words that dont belong on here or anywhere. I don't care to ever associate myself with people who would use that kind of ignorant and hateful language. Those are the words that we should be on the outlook for. If you use them, you should be punished.
