How come Maple royals does not allow new players to join?

Yes, registration and character creation is still disabled...please check the top of the shoutbox and the status updates before submitting a post. Whenever it gets fixed it will be announced there

 

oh okay, so does this mean that the server is basically down for now?

 

Those who have registered prior to the new source can get online. The server works albeit with a lot of functionality missing (which is being worked on)

 

The staff are working on getting the game 100% functional, bit by bit.

New Source patch has caused a number of problems for the game that were previously unexpected by the staff.
