I decided to make my first char a bandit because that's kinda what my main has always defaulted towards back in vanilla MS, and at level 18 I found I'm already pretty bored of building this character I'm thinking of switching over to a crossbowman, or maybe some kind of warrior since warriors can use all the silly melee weapons, but before I do I'd like to know how you guys rocket through the pre-30 early game. How do I get my money right? How should I build my hypothetical crossbow person/pole-swinger to achieve Real Soviet damage? Is it okay that I'm skipping pretty much all of Amherst except Pio because I don't want to overlevel for first adv? What is a leech and why are they so desirable? I clicked around and found out what leeching is
I'll assume that you're making a Crossbowman: You doing be fine for skipping all of the Maple Island quests, but you wouldn't have overleveled if you were to have finished them all. Best way to make some starting money is from Wild Boars. They gave a good list of NPCable equipment like various Maple weapons and other weapons and they drop power crystal ores and leather which can be sold for 500k and 100k respectively. The typical build for archers is Strless until end game where you can build up your funding and levels for end game equips that give you Str for your end game crossbow. At a certain point (around level 30), head over to Orbis and hunt some Star Pixie for your level 35 Maple crossbow since you will be Stress.
Thanks for the deets. I think my warrior will be a little more freeform since the main goal of that character will be to hit enemies with the silliest possible weapon but I'll try to seriously build a crossbowman
If you're making a warrior, most of the advice is the same, but there are a few differences. You're going to miss, a lot. So you need to get accuracy - adding dex is the easiest solution, but you can find gear with dex or accuracy on it as well. Make sure to get accuracy pills from the Ludi potion shop. They're cheap and a good accuracy boost. Don't forget to max improving HP increase (1st job skill) as soon as you can. To "earlygame", you just level really fast past earlygame Slime tree, ant tunnel, and boars are great for this. My approach with new characters when I have no funding is to just grind. Missing the monster? If you can't get accuracy gear, add dex when you level. Stats like dex can be lowered later on, so it's not too big of a deal (though I'd recommend not going above 50-60 dex). Selling equips to NPCs that drop where ever you're training is usually good enough for making meso. As you level, higher level monsters will drop more valuable equipment, so it starts to build up.
