How to use Sandboxie on Windows 8 and 10

I remembered having heard often that "you can't use Sandboxie on windows versions later than 7". So I checked some old threads on the forums, asked around in the Guilds I'm in and buddylist, apparently people believed that to be the case still. Yet, it's not true. You CAN use Sandboxie for Maple Royals on any version of Windows! Here's how:

TL; DR
Change the compatability of Start.exe in your Sandboxie folder to any version below Windows 8.

KEEP IN MIND! It might take up to several attempts to successfully launch Maple Royals the first time, or any time after that, but it works! By several attempts, I mean 10-15 at most.

Step1: Download Sandboxie (duh)

Step2:
Go to the folder with your Sandboxie files
C:\Program Files\Sandboxie

Step3:
Right-click Start.exe -> Properties

Step 4:
Compatability -> Change Settings for all users - > Change compatability to Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)

When the Properties window is open. Press the tab named "Compatability", then press "change settings for all users" which opens another window.
In that window you change the compatabilitymodus to anything below Windows 8. As seen in my screenshot, I changed it to Windows Vista (Service Pack 2).

Thanks a ton for this, I was disappointed to see I couldn't dual client with sandboxie, but now I can which seems much easier then using a virtual machine.

Keep trying, sometimes it will take a lot of attempts. I've had the same error and a few others, but it's always worked in the end. If it keeps going wrong, double-check the steps.
You can also follow the same steps to change the compatibility for the MapleRoyals.exe. It could help, but isn't necessary.

 

I've tried over 50 times, and I'd rather not change my mapleroyals.exe settings as it took me a lot of tears to get my regular client to work. Don't want to mess with that

 

Hi Vatsug, thanks for sharing this Because of this, I've re-downloaded sandboxie and given it another try.

Like you said, it does take several attempts to successfully launch MR.exe, but I'm just curious, what error codes do you get? I am always getting error "-2005530585 Unkown error (0x88760827)" and "parameter is incorrect" error codes.

 

I've probably gotten all those, but never bothered to check what they meant. I just kept on trying. I actually encountered the problem mentioned by @GoodDoodoo yesterday. It wouldn't start up, even after 30+ attempts, so all I had to do was to restart my computer and launch the game in Sandboxie before I did it the regular way and it worked without any error messages.

 

After 234892374923874 tries it finally launches, but my sandboxed client regularly completely freezes with a "failed to communicate with sandboxie service" error. My character stays connected.

 

It's never happened to me, it could be conflicting with other programs you have running, perhaps an antivirus. I run sandboxie all day on windows 10 and 8 and it stay smooth.

I really don't have a lot of answers for whatever errors people are getting, mostly because I don't get them myself so it's hard to look into

Hmm.. first few time I getting error message but after several attempts I can launch the mapleroyal.

I don't even look at the error. Did u guys follow the instructions?

Download CCleaner and clean up your registry. This helped me with the same problem (-2005530585 Unkown error (0x88760827)).

Just downloaded it and get the stupid Gr2D error. Not downloading parallels, have downloaded so much junk to get Royals working and not going to download more just for 1 game. If anyone has a solution please help
