So let me preface this post with me stating, that the GM's do a great job. I believe you guys all are passionate about your roles in the community and the only reason I give this feedback is because of how much I enjoy the game, and how I wish nothing but the best for the health of server itself. I dont care for cheaters. People who account share to level up, or people who take advantage of other players ie scam, or use hacks or bot. We have a zero tolerance on hackers and account sharing. If you're caught hacking or abusing account sharing you're perma'd. However botting is where I notice a slight discrepancy in how we judge. We have two types of botters that get caught. We have the person who thinks they're smart by sticking a key down to spam cast buffs, and a person who downloads and uses an automated program to play the game or auto cast buffs for them. The latter is considered the same as the person who sticks a key down. There is a huge difference between these players and I'd like to see that reflected in our bans. I've seen recorded footage from GM's of players using automated bots used in their ban appeals over the last few weeks. And yet they only get hit with a 7 day ban. The punishment shouldnt be the same. This is where I'd like to see things changed. We have strict rules on account sharing where a person who plays another persons account and gains them XP, Removes equips/meso is met with a permanent ban. This ruling is one i understand and agree with. What is the difference between a player who plays on another persons account, and one that has a robot play their account for them. Both should be seen as gaining an unfair advantage since they are not the account owner playing their account. What is the difference between a player who installs a hack, and a player who installs a 3rd party program to auto cast buffs and play the game? They're both things that are being used to gain an unfair advantage. Its not hard to play this game fairly. Giving 3rd party botters more than a single chance, the advantage has already been gained. If you cant play the game fairly, you shouldnt be given mutliple chances. A player who has a robot playing or auto casting buffs should be perma banned on the first offense. Not on their 3rd offense.
I agree with this proposal, I see a point in having less strict rules about botting too since theres been a couple of "unintentional botters" who basically fell asleep on their keyboard. But the fact is that it shouldnt be too difficult to see if the botter is using a really effective program to rotate a map buff different skills or what not. or if they are just spamming like one key that may not even be viable to gain an advantage through botting at all.
In an ongoing discussion the staff is having regarding reworking/rewording the T&C, this is actually one of the issues we intend to address and tweak how/what the punishments are for these differing violations. I don't really feel comfortable giving exact details as nothing has been finalized, but I did want to mention this so the community knows we are already in the process of making this tweak
So according to you, writing a script that will manage the secondary client window is allowed? That wouldn't be holding down a key nor downloading a 3rd party tool?
It would still be having a program playing the game for you, and not you actually playing yourself. If you mean manage like auto potting or skipping npc chat for PQ's and stuff (I know someone who did this, no evidence tho) that is still bannable, albeit harder to detect. But you would still be banned if you were discovered, as it is software playing the game for you.
First of all, I'm playing devil's advocate, not with the intention to irate you, but to have you think things through. PETS and their capabilities are software. At some point these were 3rd party that were incorporated into the game as a means for Wizet (or Nexon?) to gain revenue. Skill Macros are exactly that too. This means that drawing the line for "botting" varies from person to person. "botting" for me is going (and take special note) AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD and letting it do it's thing. That's the reason why in my head "stop farming" with bahamut is considered botting (since Bahamut is doing the attacking, not you) And for those of you who say "Oh, im not AFK, im just in my other client"... You are away from the keyboard, the keyboard that reads input for the client that you are using to stop farm because you are not typing input into it!
You are just nitpicking on words no one has said scripting should be allowed and it's also a bit irrelevant since it would never be allowed. Even if the definition of botting varies from person to person the rules are clear on what you get banned for. If the game developers add content to their game that does not make it third party content. I would also very much like to see people abusing scripts be perma banned right away and hopefully sooner than later.
I kinda agree and disagree with you about the last note. There are 2 types of scripting: 1. The harmful one - You edit your damage, your mobility, your skill duration. You can make equipment with stats become NX items and put another equipment below it hence giving you 2x the stats you'd get. Sometimes editing a map can also be harmful (for example - JQ's). 2. The not harmful one - Where you just visually change things. Different UI, different hairstyle, different face, different color of skill effects (maybe even importing the images from a higher version) different tiles for maps, different map structure (can be abused). People can be innocent: In the Israeli community (and maybe in some others, idk) of MapleStory private servers we have this habit of putting all clients in the same folder if it's the same version (usually 62/83). It usually contains the same files, so why making a new one? There was a popular forum where you'd see bunch of private servers who are running but nearly identical to each other in terms of files, so people just put all the clients in the same folder and it was OK. I'm not trying to justify this kind of thinking, I'm just saying this was legitimate back then and there are people who are still doing it these days. I can guarantee you that I once saw someone using the dual blade's skills (as far as you can call them that) in MapleRoyals 2-2.5 years ago. I don't think he was trying to get any advantage from it, it was just how his folder was set due to old private servers he used to play. I've also seen plenty of people swimming in the FM. Not because they were hacking, they just simply had a different map for the FM. It used to be popular to make an invisible line above the FM doors in the first line, as you can see here: My experience with WZ editing and MapleRoyals: I'm pretty sure it was before we even got the donator system. I gave myself a hairstyle that was from a much higher version and I also colored it and played with it in a different private server (it was a vanilla v62 as well). When I first joined MapleRoyals I saw the v62 tag on it and I just simply downloaded the client and put it where my v62 folder is, with all the edited files and extra. When I played I just chose the hairstyle that I edited and I thought it was fine that I even recorded myself in CPQ (if anyone remembers that video) and also in a JQ with it. I was playing with it until I asked the staff if it was okay and realized I need to download the vanilla files. I think in terms of WZ, it's a bit more complicated than botting with a remote on a keyboard or with a 3rd party program. Some people can be innocent, even if their damage is x2 than it supposed to be. I did like the idea of having to download the whole files from the website (instead of it being client + files like most servers. You actually need to go to download individual files in order to find it) but a lazy smartass like me would probably go search for the client instead of downloading a whole new files and just put it where the rest of my files are (not that I'm saying it's OK, but if I were to download a new server, this is what I'd probably do if I wouldn't think it through). Just like we have a few notes for the voting rules in the voting section: https://royals.ms/?page=vote I think we should have a few notes for the WZ rules (if we are planing of making scripting a more serious punishment): https://royals.ms/?page=download
Editing the wz files is not scripting and that's not really related to botting since you can't bot by editing your wz files and these types of wz edits are not something I have been talking about. There have been threads for letting people do cosmetic changes but that's a whole other discussion.
Then what do you mean by scripting? because in every game I played scripting meant editing the game's files.
Topic of the thread is about botting so that's all I have been talking about. If you haven't written a script then you can't be scripting, simple as that. Since this has nothing to do with this thread I suggest reading the already existing threads about allowing cosmetic wz edits and why they have been turned down.
