Hi guys, new to the server, and haven't played pre BB maple for ages. I've decided to make a bowman, but can't decide where to go once I hit second job. Are there any main differences? its quite hard to find any detail on them as they are from so long ago. The main thing I can see from their skills (looking at BBB hidden street) is that there's not much difference until 4th job, where crossbowmen are better at mobbing and hunters are better at bossing.

-bowmaster have greater single target dps over marksmen
    - marksmen are a lot more cheaper In comparison to bowmaster
    - both require hp washing if you intend on horntailing later in the game

Well, they don't require HP washing, it's just suggested if you want to boss as early as possible. You will still be able to boss if you don't wash but you'll have to wait longer than if you didn't wash.

I'd suggest just doing minor washing for your first character. So have maybe 20-40 base INT by level 70 for a wash every 3-6 levels. That should be enough for someone who's unfunded to begin bossing fairly soon without braking the bank.

Also, no character requires washing. It is recommended if you want to boss asap though. However, most, if not all, horntail parties have a dk so you don't have to have it. Even if there is no dk, there are ways around killing body parts so that you don't get killed. If all else fails, resurrection is a thing too.

HP washing is a luxury, not a necessity. How else did people HT on gms where ap resets cost actual money without HP washing? They were able to ht just fine ^^

Each class has some pros over the other one.
    Hunter:
Arrow bomb is a better skill than iron arrow, my xbow friends say the skill isn't really good and it shoots straight instead of moving towards the enemy (so you can't snipe and stuff). Arrow bomb also have a pretty long stun (maybe 5 sec or so) which is useful in places like lmpq or chronos and some others.
Better single target dps with hurricane
Can pin bosses like anego/bigfoot better with hurricane
Higher attacking speed (especially with hurricane)
    Crossbowman:
Have the ability to freeze with blizzard in 3rd job and the ice bird in 4th job, which are better than the hunter's fire skills.
Have Piercing Arrow which is good for grinding at tot and stuff (though usually you mostly boss at these lvls)
A more rare class so it's more unique and have cheap xbows/books
Higher damage range (and high damaging skills in 4th job)

Thanks for all the responses guys, I was a bit worried on how necessary HP washing would be. As I didn't start bossing until post big bang it's never been an issue for me. I'm not really a fan of putting AP into int lol, but maybe for a few levels around level 30 and I should be fine. Also the price difference in scrolls being that big is tempting me towards crossbowman a lot more :)

ooh thanks Ayane, your response popped up after I submitted mine. Some great points, they make me want to go towards hunter, but I think as a first character that low cost would benefit me more.

The cost will be pretty similar as they both wash and have the same items. When you'll want a good bow it can cost you 700m or more though when a xbow will cost like 200 or 300 (not sure about xbow prices)
