Recently purchased a card game consisting of a bunch of hypothetical questions, the situations range from pretty ridiculous to clever situations. Sharing a few cards with everyone to see what responses people would have to the situations presented. Don't be afraid to discuss further (why you decided on that) or ask questions. Here's the first card: Synesthesia You are forced to give up one of your five senses (smell, sight, taste, touch or hearing). However, you may choose to compensate for the loss by means of synesthesia. For example, if you decide to give up your sense of sight, you can choose to smell colors instead. Or if you give up hearing, you might opt to taste music. If you give up taste, you could replace this sensation by feeling flavors. Basically, whatever sense you reject would be reflected through an alternative medium (this is up to you to decide). Which of your senses would you surrender, and how would you replace it? EDIT: Personally, I'd choose hearing through sight. Selective hearing at it's finest.
The example of loosing your taste, and be able to feel flavors is the one I would want to do, but if I had to pick something else. I would want to lose my smell, but be able to smell things through touch.
No, no i don't. Was only referring to the later half. My bad for being unclear. Although the first part may not be an issue, i would'nt doubt that you could smell it through the toilet paper.
I would probably lose my sense of smell, and compensate, by my taste being influenced by smell. e.g. flowers would be delicious, and raw fish would suck.
Here's two hypotheticals to bump this thread: You celebrate your 75th birthday in good health. As far as you can tell you are a spry, relatively normal 75-year old. And this condition does not seem to change over time: When you celebrate your 80th birthday, you look and feel exactly as you did on your 75th. When you hit 90, you still look and feel 75. On your 100th birthday, you realized that most of your friends are now dead or dying -- but physically, you are the same independent person you were 25 years ago. You hit age 110 with the same results. Every year, you are celebrating a new birthday without physically evolving beyond that age of 75. Doctors have no explanation for this inexplicable status. How old would you have to be before you would seriously start to believe that you are immortal? You become friends with a charismatic Spanish insurance salesman who claims to be a mystic. At first you think he's just an interesting weirdo, but then a mutual acquaintance mysteriously dies in his sleep, and your Spanish friend tells you, "I killed that guy. I killed him with my mind." You find this disturbing and inappropriate, but you decide to let it go. Two weeks later, an unpopular local politician dies in his sleep." I killed that man, too," says your Spanish friend."I killed him with my mind." This is annoying and tasteless, but -- once again -- you let it go. The very next day, the Spanish insurance salesman call you on the telephone and says," Check the newspaper and see what I did with my mind. It's in the entertainment section." When you open the newspaper you obituary for singer-songwriter Tori Amos; the article says she mysteriously died the night before. Technically this proves nothing. But you nonetheless confront your Spanish friend and tell him that you've grown tired of this hypothetical mind murdering any longer want to be his friend. "Don't you dare shut me out of your life," he says. "You are my best friend. You must remain in my life. I'm not sure what I would do if you ever betrayed me." Do you remain friends with this possibly delusional, possibly dangerous Spaniard? You have no physical proof that he can actually kill people with his mind. Spoiler: read my answers answer after answering pls Spoiler: DON'T CHEAT!!!! (1)I'd say at around 200, I'd start to question whether or not I'm immortal which would suck because I'd just watch people around me die. (2) I would remain friends with the Spaniard only because I wouldn't know what he was capable of doing (assuming what he does is true) and would probably ask him to demonstrate on someone of my choosing -- but then I'd would probably feel guilty for the death of someone (assuming that this person actually has those powers). I also wonder why he feels so strongly about me staying in his life if I had more or less just met him (I could assume this person doesn't have many friends because he tends to act this way). -- going to stop rambling but this is pretty much the point of the game.
How old would you have to be before you would seriously start to believe that you are immortal? I would have to do research if anyone else had the same conditions as me. If there was at least one other person I would believe I was physically immortal by the age of 120. If no one shared my body features I would still doubt it up until the age of 125 at least, where I would be older than any other recorded human being while still feeling healthy. Do you remain friends with this possibly delusional, possibly dangerous Spaniard? You have no physical proof that he can actually kill people with his mind. Yes I would remain friends and even try to get closer to him in order to possibly make use of his powers for our benefit. He would have to prove to me that he can do it by telling who he would kill BEFORE he does it, for testing purpose we could use a death sentenced criminal or something. If he's unable or unwilling to do so I no longer have to remain his friend but if he can, a whole lot of opportunities open up.
How old would you have to be before you would seriously start to believe that you are immortal? Well, the oldest person to have ever lived was 122 years old when she died, and she was, in fact, quite healthy, even past 115. Of course, it's possible, especially nowadays with advanced technological support for your body available, for someone to live a healthy life, even past 100 years old (although this is rare nonetheless). So for me to actually start believing I could be immortal would be at (at least) the age of 130-135, since then I will have passed the previous "record" by over 10 years, which even today's medicine can't possibly help me with. I don't believe in things such as immortality, so it would have to be quite obvious for me to actually believe it; I'd have to be 100% healthy even at that age for it (but that's said, so...) Do you remain friends with this possibly delusional, possibly dangerous Spaniard? You have no physical proof that he can actually kill people with his mind. @Tim said something similar to what I was going to say. The Spaniard can just claim that this person died because of him, but that's just his word, there's no proof for it. I obviously wouldn't believe it, but due to my own curiosity, I would remain friends with him for a while. I would want to see for myself that he is the one doing it. If it's not, I would abandon the guy, since there's no real "danger" of him trying to kill me with his mind out of revenge (which he can't). If he can kill people with his mind, however, I would even feel forced to remain friends with him, since he has powers that he could use against me if I decide to betray him, and since those powers could be used to my our advantage.
bump lol I think I'd have to see my child(ren) die from old age before I see myself as immortal. And that Spanish guy is a timebomb I'd risk death and just stop talking to the guy. I don't think I'd gain much benefit from being friends with him even if he could kill people with his mind. More pls
