Hi guys, it has been years since the old maple. I am currently playing MapleSEA. I found out about this pserver and was like, WOW I WANNA PLAY!(nostalgic)

Anyways, i wasn't very good at maple back then. My highest level back then was like around......35??

I plan to play Pureluk sin (does it exist?) and was thinking that I might need another character to farm up the equips and scrolls and blah blah blah.

so....I created a MAGE!!!!!! but now am indecisive of choosing which path......any suggestions??

Sin: Pureluk (aka dexless) is viable, yes. Most people revert to low dex + dex gear in later levels, though. (Read: 100+)
If you plan to do that, try to keep your dex between 60-80, while striving for about 150 dex total.

    Mage:

The obvious choice would be Bishop, as that would be a proper class to 'farm' or 'leech' your other characters, if you wish to do so.
If you purely just want money, I/L mage or even F/P mage are completely viable. You can make a ton of money from just drops as a mage.

Also, most mages go completely LUKless, and stay that way. 1 INT = 1 magic attack. If you consider the amount of LUK you need for high level staves/wands, and therefore the amount of INT you'll lose out on, in comparison to the extra Magic attack you'll get from the high(er) level weapons; it'll be a complete waste.

    Example:

    Elemental wand #
    Average M.att = 145
    LUK required = 0

    vs.

    Elemental Staff #
    Average M.att = 178
    LUK required = 165

Like I said, 1 INT = 1 M.att, so effectively you'll lose 1 magic attack for every LUK point allocated.

So, with some basic math we get:

    Magic Attack per LUK point:

    Elemental Wand: 145 - 0 = 145.
    Elemental Staff: 178 - 165 = 13.

    Difference: 132 Magic attack.

By this logic, you'll lose out on 132 magic attack on endgame weapons just by having a LUK-based mage.

Obviously, you will be able to wear more other mage stuff when you have a decent amount of LUK allocated, but this is definitely not significant enough. Especially because, as a LUKless mage, you can still get a zhelm, a INT sauna robe, gloves, cape, earrings and even shoes if you're a total damage whore c:

My answer might be a little lengthy and in-depth considering the simple questions you asked, but I felt like using my brain today. I'm sure it'll be helpful :D

Welcome! I played MapleSEA as well and my highest was a Level 43 Cleric back then, haha.
(maybe that's why I'm so attracted to Mages)

Another good alternative is just make an I/L or F/P mage to 4th job (since blizz and meteor 20 are cheap compared to gene20) and just get an HS mule to level 84. At 84 you have max HS and a decent level of door without being able to leech most places except for wolf spiders.

In the long run, the method that @Sila mentioned is more lucrative because you can one shot many more mobs than Bishops can, but this is a completely different topic. Being a Bishop can and will take you to whatever your goal is equipment and meso.

Bella's Bishop guide is quite solid. My leeching guide is primarily for after you become a Bishop, but you can look at it for reference.

If you have any more detailed questions for any of us, feel free to make a Help abd Advice thread.
