According to the T&C: There's some other restrictions that aren't listed here, such as not being able to use "Maple", "GM", >3 lowercase Ls/capital is, and various other restricted phrases. I'd recommend publishing the full list to help people come up with names easier, and to potentially allow feedback to make the naming conditions less restrictive - we're a small enough community that rule breaking names can be reported, and profanity filters tend to be very easy to get around anyways, so the restrictions just cause frustration. Personally I'd recommend making "Maple" allowed, and not sure if GM is entirely banned or if it's allowed in the middle of things, but at least letting it connect so you don't have IGNs such as BogMonster disallowed (I didn't check if that's possible) No I'm not making this post just because the IGN MapleWarrior isn't allowed. That might be some of the motivation behind it though.
Regarding your full list, I would stand on the staff's side for this as I have come to agree with a fellow staff's statement : "About the other IGNs, we are only able to discuss as a Staff team if the IGNs are created, along with relevant context - any hateful speech or behaviors If we are gonna ban all of the potentially hateful IGNs, we can list an infinite of them as players will always find ways to "evade" - such as variation of N-word, "N1GG4" or the usage of non-English language such as the Cantonese example you have given" The full list will take very long to create and perfectly full for them, this is for example purpose : IHate<Race name> could be in the list The player see that they could make a different variation of it, like changing the Letter I into a 1, or the Letter a into a 4, or switching the <race name> with every possible variations. The list wont be perfect from the start as it wont be a full list, staffs are not perfect human, they won't be able to cover everything - which also gives our current ign report a purpose. I have not tested if successful reported igns would be able to create again, but I believe its permanently taken and banned, can a staff confirm this as a support ? But... if u just want certain unoffensive words like "Maple" allowed, then perhaps I can switch side for this, and we can fight it for as a community. Thank you.
Actually no idea what happens with banned IGNs, since usually they get an IGN change so it might be freed up again? But I'm not talking about reported and banned IGNs here - that process should remain as it is. I'm talking about the native restrictions in the game that prevent you from creating an IGN, even if it isn't taken. Which for those who want offensive IGNs is easily circumvented anyways as you noted earlier on, so it mostly just serves to prevent legit players from getting the cool IGN they want.
Yes, that was part of the original post. I just wasn't sure if that rule matched any instance of gm or only at the start of an IGN so Apoc tested it for me. On a side note, it's funny that GM is disallowed but none of our GMs actually decided to include that in their IGN
Just my opinion here, I think its because the Staff guild already serve the same purpose for the "GM" part and perhaps also allowing them to internal chat. I know Staffs have a bunch of tasks ahead like designing the new bosses but I hope we can also add this topic to your task list. From my perspective, i feel that this string problem makes it a very basic filter. What's the deal with "Maple" thou ?
