Seems like there is a lot of controversy of players getting perma banned for breaking certain rules that are not obvious without reading the T&C. Having been here a year and a half I personally have never even glanced at it and in reality most people never bother to look through it when playing any game. So I would like to suggest an in game quiz quest with some kind of lvl requirement regarding the T&C that hands out a half decent reward (such as 10k nx). This way players will at least be actively exposed to the rules so that they may prevent themselves from getting banned for something like silly RWT jokes. There can also be a daily attempt limit so people don't just click through random options until they get it. OR something even simpler would be to have one of those automatic tips that appear in the chat box every now and then and have it be about certain rules in the T&C, especially regarding RWT jokes and account sharing
This is something that would help spread awareness about the rules/T&C. However, this is something that is not necessarily needed. People should be aware of the rules before they play the game. People should be aware of things before they do it--in general. Be ignorant of the rules does not make you an exception to them. I believe the rules/T&C is common sense, and the people that break the rules know they are breaking the rules. Even if they are breaking the rules lightly or in a joking manner, they are joking about it because they know its wrong and think its funny. The only thing that people may not know about is the consequences of some rule breaking.
Not required in my opinion, because you are deemed to have understood the T&C while registering for an account. The most that could be done is to add in a few more RoyalTips and further elaborating it.
Yea its not required, and yea players agreed to it. But can I ask you guys if you have a youtube, facebook, instagram, or an email account? Can you honestly say that you've read through those super long T&C's before signing up for these things? Do you read the T&C on the back of your movie ticket whenever you go watch a movie? If so you are amazing, and I have nothing but sincere respect for that, but I have to doubt that is the case and even if you do, you are 1 in a million. I also have to disagree that the terms are all blatantly obvious. I joke to my friends all the time about jacking their car or stealing all their money, so I don't see why its common sense to avoid making obvious jokes about RWT unless youve praddled thorugh the forums and have read ban appeals. I also don't think its common sense that I can get banned for letting my little brother kill a couple mushrooms with my character for 10 minutes My point is just this: Why not help players be more aware? It would stop them from getting banned and also reduce the rate of infrations that occur, which means we have less illegal things happening in the server and it would save gm's a great amount of hassle. Is there something to lose from this?
+1 for the idea. I have a suggestion for this. There are already some servers who like to put a NPC at the beginning, just before hitting Maple Island, who tells the important stuff (which usually consist of unique server features and rules with their TLR versions too). Add a quiz about it at the end and there you have, a way to make people not getting banned without them not knowing why.
I have nothing interesting to share about an in game quiz, but we are going to at least increase the chance that you will see the RWT and account sharing Royal Tip during the next patch.
Of course it isn't required but since a huge part of the community hasn't read through the T&C when registering, the Staff should implement at least RoyalTips about it. The whole objective of having T&C in the first place is to avoid meaningless bans and messy circumstances... so why say 'no' to implementing something that's going to help the Staff in that sense? Bottomline, if its going to help in your cause, might as well do it.
For the RoyalTips, we are already in discussion to improve it further so as to prevent misunderstanding for new players who chose to not read the TNC at all. As for the in-game quiz, we will have to further explore the possibility, but not as of yet. Do keep your feedback coming in, because we are dedicated and committed to continously improve the game for all to be in.
This may come across as off-topic, but could someone explain to me why joking about RWT can get you banned? I've seen someone in the past who joked about buying a Gen20 (it was obvious it was in a joking manner) and they got permanently banned for it. I just wanted to know from the GMs, or perhaps other players themselves as to why this is the way it is. +1 for the idea btw.
I'm guessing its because you can't really know for sure if someone's joking when you're reading chat logs. Plus saying you were just joking would be a good excuse if you get caught RWTing. Hard to prove.
We dont accept joking about any other infraction, or people using that as an excuse to get away with a punishment. RWT is no different. We shouldn't have to sit and decipher every time someone says "B>gen30 i'll give you $20" to see whether they're serious or not. It becomes a zero tolerance situation. Just like hacking, no matter what hack, is bannable. Even if it's just flying around the FM. The few words we have that are also 0 tolerance and bannable can't be skirted around the rules by joking either. Someone was autobanned over smegas for quoting song lyrics that had the N word in them. If we make too many exceptions, people will start using those exceptions to get away with the offense. That's my take on the whole situation at least. While I don't fully agree with a quiz for the TnC - because people agree to it upon signing up anyway and it should be something that you at least skim through since we have it formatted easily enough -, I can understand its purpose. However, I don't feel it will help that much because people will still ignore it, click past it, etc. How many people truly read quest info? Even when it's something important like a skill quest. They only read it when they get stuck. (Unless you're me and you like doing quests anyway). I digress. I guess it's just supposed to be common sense to read the rules upon a server you join, since every one is different. It's the first thing I do at least. But what's common sense to some people isn't even thought of for others, so who knows. Maybe it will help.
Quoting myself in OP: Just wanted to point out I did mention something to deal with people just clicking through
Yea but what happens if they mess up their attempts? Locked out of the game? Unable to play? What if someone doesn't speak English and can't easily use a translator since it's in game, where you can't copy and paste? I wouldn't want to get honest people mixed up in something that would prevent them from playing.
It's just an idea for a solution to get the point across, im not saying its the only or best solution. Can also just do the same thing as the 3rd job adv or something where it takes a semi important item per attempt. And by the way the OP is just mentioning it should be a quest with a half decent reward (like 10k nx). I never suggested that the quiz thing be required to advance through the game
And this is the one part of the proposals that I am completely against. We shouldn't be rewarding people for doing something they ought to already be doing. It's like rewarding you for obeying the law. You're supposed to be obeying the law to begin with.
Ummm I am not from America so I don't know much about the whole "N" situation but I have visited your country once, but still..I don't get it. Isn't it if the person is African American he can use the N word? Like in the rap songs. Besides, there are 2 N words, one with the R in the end and one with A in the end. Isn't the one with the R which is historically racist, and the A in the end is not? For example, I am myself Jewish. Lots of my family were killed during the WW2 and the holocaust. Still, these kind of "Hitler" jokes do not offend me nor lots of other people from my country (Israel). I even like this kind of humor. And trust me, I'm not the only person with this kind of taste in humor. In fact, these jokes/jokingly "nazi" calling are quite common here. I even saw a married guy who have changed his wife name on the phone to "Hitler" so when she is calling him it reads "היטלר מחייג אליך״ - Incoming call from Hitler. Didn't saw anyone who got offended by this joke and got triggered. It was actually funny if you knew his wife and the whole story behind it. Maybe I don't understand something, but I see a lot of people who are offended by something it has nothing to do with them, or something they do not understand. But yeah, stalking someone and calling him the N word or saying direct racial slurs like saying "You x people are all ____" should be obviously illegal and whoever is directly racist/bigot should be banned. But quoting rap songs? Come on... Please explain.
Allowing it would simply create loopholes, and I can use your argument as an example for it: "You x people are all ____" should be illegal according to your own explanation, but then again if someone has ever sang those exact words in a rap song then it's suddenly okay to be used? Where would you put the bar? As with loopholes or gray areas it would be very hard to put one, and thus all it would do is create a lot more work for us to play lawyer every time someone pulls this kind of stunt. That's not something we would want, and I don't think it's something the community would want either. You'd just get 500 feedback threads about how one ban was unfair as opposed to the other, since we'd no longer be following strict objectively set up guidelines, which wouldn't work out very well.
It's the same word, regardless of the letter at the end. Sila is right, if they let people skip on things that may or may not be a joke, you invite people to push the envelope. Arguably the most famous example of this is Hitler and the Aremian genocide. It got almost zero attention world wide, so he didn't think the Holocaust would either. There's really no reason to make a joke about it in the first place though. I dunno, are people really so bored that they have to quote songs in a smega? Why pick a rap song with a word that everyone knows is bad? I mean hey, I'm listening to the soundtrack to St. Elmo's Fire right now, and it's from the 80's, and the message of the song is about the freedom in becoming an adult. I just don't see the appeal in music that's about dealing drugs, being in a gang, or whatever. And don't even try to tell me that's what rap is, because there was plenty of rap that didn't glorify a subculture of abuse before all the new "rap" hit the shelves. There's also a difference between making fun of Jews and the use of the N word. To further make my point, you can make fun of a group of people without using slurs. I know plenty of Jewish people, hell, one of them is from a family of master jewelers, and you can bet there's joke thrown around about how you can't spell jewel without jew, but that's different than me calling him one of the half dozen bad slurs for being jewish. Conversely, you can make fun of black people without calling them a racial slur, cue when I jokingly say I couldn't see my roommate when he leaves the lights off in the apartment (He's from the middle of Africa) Either way, I'd still keep it civil here. I know my friends are okay with it, you don't know how everyone here feels, and the admins have the freedom to ban at their discretion. Even if its "legal" to say the N word, that doesn't mean it has to be something that can just be thrown around here because it was in a song.
