Inusama's unnecessarily detailed guide to buying a zhelm and surviving the boss fight for it
Version 1.8 - Some formatting fixes
    Contents:
So uh, what's a 'zhelm'?
The Zakum Helmet is a LVL50 untradeable helmet dropped by Zakum after he is defeated and is an incredibly powerful helmet for every class. Average stats are +15 to STR, DEX, INT and LUK along with +20 accuracy, avoid and a big boost to both weapon defence and magic defence. It also has 10 slots which you can scroll! The lowest possible stats for a zhelm are +13 all and the best are +22 all!
Since we don’t have scissors of karma here, the only way to obtain one is to join a party and loot it in the boss map, it will cost around 20 ~ 60 million mesos for this service ~mesos

So how do you get this overpowered but ugly af headwear? :o
To enter and survive the boss fight you will need to be:
    • LVL50+
    • Prequest completed, see Christine's guide if you need help. If you're struggling with the jump quest, give Succubus' guide a read. If you are incapable of doing the jump quest, there is an alternative questline available starting at Adobis one map right of El Nath but be aware: it is extremely time consuming and tedious (over 10 hours to complete).
    • At least one Eye of Fire in your ETC inventory [IMG]
    • Have not exceeded your daily amount of Zakum entries. You may only enter Zakum twice per day, this resets at 00:00 servertime. You can check servertime ingame with the command ~servertime
For warriors, bowmen, thieves and pirates:
    • At least 3,200 HP
    • Around 200 potions that will heal around 4k HP
    • All cures/holy water if necessary
    For mages
    • Can survive Zakum just using magic guard
    • Around 200 HP AND MP potions
    • All cures/holy water
[IMG] Melting cheese are probably the most convenient HP potion for non-mages. They are available at many potion stores including the one in El Nath. They cost 4,500 mesos each and heal 4,000 HP.
[IMG] Power elixirs are the best option for mages. They recover both your HP and MP to full. They are dropped by high level monsters or can be purchased in the freemarket for 18k mesos each. Potions that heal both hp/mp should be set to only one of your auto pet equips.

Clerics hoping to just spam heal the entire time should know the amount healed scales with INT so at low level you might struggle to get your HP back to full before the next magic attack.
Zakum can cast seal which will stop you from using skills. If you need to recast hyper body/magic guard but are sealed, using one of these will allow you to use skills until Zakum casts seal again. Seal is a visible debuff, a lock will appear over your head and a message will appear in the chat box.
[IMG] All cures can be purchased in the freemarket. [IMG] Holy water can be purchased from a number of places, the closest being Orbis potion store.

    Not got 3,200HP? :'(
The spearman party buff Hyper Body (often called HB) provides +60% HP for 300 seconds. With this buff, you only need 2,000 HP to survive as long as the buff is regularly recast. Parties with this are rarer and may charge more than usual for it. If you're playing a spearman and have maxed hyper body you may get a discount or even a free helm for buffing the other looters with it.

If you’re bored of waiting for a party with hyper body to show up there are some equips which can help but the HP bonus will be small without scrolling. HP scrolls are cheap but regularly discarded since they're worth so little.
I've never heard anything about defence helping but if you choose to do that be aware you'll only be getting hit by zakum's magic attacks so don't bother with weapon defence.

    Helmets:
[IMG] Newspaper Hat +20 HP, rarely drops from Cloud Fox
[IMG] Red Sporty Hat +30 HP, New Life quest reward (random)
[IMG] Black Old Wisconsin +20 HP + 20 MP, Sleepywood gachapon
[IMG] White Starry Bandana +50 HP/MP, Sleepywood gachapon
[IMG] Ribboned Pig Headband +50 HP, Mrs. Ming Ming's Second Worry quest reward

    Bottomwear:
[IMG] Sandblasted Jeans +3 HP bought from Lith Harbour armour store (all gender)
[IMG] Warfare Pants +5 HP bought from Henesys armour store (male only)
These are both all class so the clean bonus is pretty small. Lots of class-only tops/bottoms are available with larger bonuses.

    Weapons:
[IMG] Maple Lama Staff (mage only, +100 HP +50 MP) drops from Horny Mushroom and Ratz
[IMG] Green Paint Brush +30 HP, Showa weapon store
[IMG] Versalmas Cactus +100 HP, Christmas event reward, Showa gachapon
[IMG] Emergency Rescue Tube +150 HP, drops from Grupin and Maskfish. Also obtainable via CBD gachapon (Note: LVL60 requirement)

    Face accessory:
[IMG] White Mouse Kit (1) +20 HP +20 MP, Showa gachapon (Note: untradeable and 0 slots)

    Pendant:
[IMG] Spiegelmann's Necklace +30 HP +30 MP. Obtainable via CPQ (Note: when upgraded with Spiegelmann's Marble)
[IMG] Deputy Star +100HP +100 MP, don't bother getting this unless you're funded

    Earring:
[IMG] Fallen Leaf Earrings +25 HP +25 MP, drops from Red Slime

    Medals:
[IMG] Junior Adventurer Medal +100 HP +100 MP
Lots of explorer medals grant 110 or 120 to both.
[IMG] Victoria Explorer Medal +125 HP +125 HP
[IMG] Ergoth's Bane +500 HP +500 MP (Note: LVL60 requirement)

    Good options for scrolling:
[IMG] Green Bandana (10 slots) drops from Leprechaun
[IMG] Branch Nose (7 slots) NLC gachapon
[IMG] Maple Shield (10 slots) drops from Platoon Chronos and Jr Yeti
[IMG] LVL50 Capes from LPQ and various monster drops (lower level capes are too valuable to turn into HP equips imo)

You can find HP scrolls for helmet, face accessory, earring, topwear, bottomwear, gloves, cape and shield. Check the library to see which monster drops them, if they’re not dropped by anything they're gachapon only.

    Okay, let’s find a party then :p
Either smega yourself or keep an eye out for people looking for buyers. Should look something along the lines of:

    S>Zhelms 20mill SB 20mill VIP50mill!

If they have hyper body, they’ll mention it. If you need HB, mention it in your smega.

[IMG] They are skill books, items that can be used in fourth job to unlock or upgrade skills.
The ones they're talking about in these smegas are:
    • Triple Throw 10 for Night Lords
    • Advanced Combo Attack 10 for Heroes
    • Advanced Charge 10 for Paladins
    • Angel Ray 10 for Bishops (definitely not worth paying for, it's a low priority skill for bishops so you can just get it for free later)
Since these books are untradeable, you have to loot them yourself after Zakum is defeated. If you're playing one of those classes, it would be worth paying for the skill book if it drops since it’s random whether or not any of them will drop and you will definitely need them at 4th job. It can definitely become tedious obtaining them with the twice per day Zakum restriction.
VIP means you are the only helmet buyer on the run, you get to loot every helm that drops. This does not include other Zakum drops such as equips, NX and event items.

Respond to the smega saying you would like to buy a zhelm and sb if applicable, they will tell you to come to El Nath, often shortened to just Nath. You will have to get there yourself to meet the party and they will not wait for you to take slow boat rides. There’s a couple fast ways of getting there.
[IMG] Orbis Rock Scroll can be used to skip Orbis tower. They can be obtained from quests or in the free market.
[IMG] Return Scroll for Dead Mine can be used in Orbis, this will teleport you to the Dead Mine in El Nath. Just use a normal return scroll or suicide to get warped back to Nath. You can find these in the free market.
[IMG] REG Teleport Rocks may also be used to teleport from Orbis to El Nath. They cost 1.5mill mesos from Albert in the free market or available in the cash shop for NX.

VIP Teleport Rocks may be used to teleport to El Nath from almost anywhere in Maple! They cost 3mill mesos from Albert in the free market or available in the cash shop for NX.

When you’re there, cc (change channel) if required and hang around while they finish preparing. If they’re still recruiting attackers it might take a while. This is a good time to set up your pet auto HP/MP and unequip item pouch from your pet.

When they're ready to get started, the bishop will head off and use a skill called Mystic Door. This will spawn a door nearby which will move you to where the bishop is when you press ↑ in front of it. You have to be in the same party as the bishop to interact with the door so just chill around until you get a party invite or whispered to invite the bishop to your party.

Now you should be outside the door to Zakum, head into the portal on your right into the waiting area.

You won't be expected to pay until you have looted a helmet/sb.
You won't be expected to drop the Eye of Fire to spawn Zakum.
You can only enter Zakum twice every 24 hours, the counter resets at midnight server time

Don’t talk to the NPC named Adobis until this message appears in the chat and a large timer at the top of the screen.
When that appears, click on Adobis to see this menu.
    Click the first option.
When everyone has signed up, the leader will enter the map and this message will appear in the chat.
Simply click on Adobis once more to be taken into the boss room.

The party might ask for you to drop the Eye of Fire to spawn Zakum. These sell for around 15mill so don't drop unless you are confident in surviving and you get a discount.

When inside just stay in the bottom left corner. This is your home now. Zakum's magic attacks will always knockback to the left so you should be mostly safe here. Be aware that the monsters that Zakum summons can knock you to the right so don't go afk for too long. Zakum's body can deal 9,500+ damage so don't go anywhere near it.

Don't attack Zakum or the mobs it summons; just keep a close eye on your health bar in case your pet autoHP/MP fails. Don't rely on it completely. If you are a spearman, keep hyper body up. If you're a mage, keep magic guard (and invincible if you’re a cleric) up at all times. It should take around 20~30 minutes for the attackers to defeat the boss but this may drag on significantly longer if multiple attackers disconnect.

GFXing means changing the picture quality in the system options. This supposedly flushes out lag or something - it's pretty easy so you can just do it if you feel like it. You probably don’t need to do it but if you disconnect from your first attempt or just feel like doing it anyway:
To do it quickly on keyboard, starting with the quality set to max, press ESC ↑ ↑ ENTER ← ENTER. It doesn’t matter if you change the setting left or right, just changing them supposedly helps. You should do this after each body so in total three times. First when all the arms have been defeated, then after body 1 is killed and then again after body 2.

If you die in the boss room, do not panic. The bishop should have resurrection, a skill which will bring you back to life. Do not quit the game or respawn, just wait. You can stay dead for 10 minutes until being forced out of the boss room. The bishop will need to be in the same party as you when casting resurrection. If you need hyper body to survive, make sure whoever is doing that is in the same party as you and spamming it when you get resurrected. Be sure to spam healing items yourself, if all goes well you'll be back alive and ready to keep tanking hits. If the bishop doesn’t have resurrection or the skill is on cooldown… RIP ~f18

Once Zakum is dead, stay in the corner and wait to be called over to loot your helmet and/or skillbook. There may be a loot order depending on which buyer whispered first so wait patiently for your turn. If not enough helmets drop and you are low in the loot order, you may not receive a helm: tough luck.

If you are unhappy with the stats on your helmet and there are extras available, they may offer a reloot for around 10mill. Since the Zakum helmet is a 'one-of-a-kind' item, you can't have more than one in your inventory. To pick up another you have to drop your zhelm and since it is an untradeable item it will be permanently deleted. Make sure no one else is planning to loot it first or you may end up with no helmet at all.

With your new helmet proudly equipped, the leader will ask for payment either right there, outside the boss room or back in El Nath. If you didn't loot a helmet, you don't have to pay anything but you won't get mesos back for the pots used either. Better luck next time.

    TL ; DR ^_^'
    • 3,200 HP without HB, 2,000 HP with HB
    • Around 200 healing pots
    • Unequip item pouch
    • Stay in the bottom left corner until Zakum’s dead
    • ESC ↑ ↑ ENTER ← ENTER to GFX if necessary
    • Only pay after looting a helmet
    • You can only enter Zakum twice per day
Thanks for reading this long guide, I hope this puts you at ease when purchasing a Zhelm. If you have any feedback or questions, feel free to leave a comment.

I'd correct the minimum HP to 3.2k, I've always recommended 3.2k minimum and have seen people die before without having enough. :p

However, rest of the guide looks good. :D

I hv some doubts on my mind. Since a lot of players (or maybe just me ) wanted the zhelm with the intention of cheap hp washing , and at the same time , the minimum requirement hp is 3,200 (which is still too high for a thief jobs , currently lvl 66 and with barely 2k hp), so what if im a thief , unfunded , without decent int gears, to buy the zhelm service , what is the very very minimum lvl i need to be at to actually reach 3.2k ?

Marvelous guide! I love unnecessarily detailed instructions :D
Now that I know exactly what needs to be done for a Zakum helmet, I'm especially interested in finding out what the second best helmet for lukless mages is^_^'^_^'
This might be a little off topic but if anyone can give me a clue, I'll be very much grateful ;)

Probably the green bandana. LVL10 with 10 slots to scroll. Should be a lot of them in the freemarket since people use them for hp washing.
    Other lukless hats include:
Black bandana, LVL10, 7 slots, 0-7 INT clean.
Black Starry Bandana and Purple Old Wisconsin are both LVL20 hats with some INT clean but they're both gachapon only.
