On this quest, once you hit 3 out of the 4 cat's eye drops, they stop dropping. I tried dropping one of the cat's eyes and immediately got another drop from the meerkat, but once it hits 3 it stops again. Doesn't matter if you pick it up into your inventory or not, I tried farming until they all dropped and then picking them up but they still stop at only 3 times. I notice this was a previous problem as well on this thread.
There are currently no checks in place to stop dropping quest items while you have a quest in progress, so this seems to just be bad luck. The drop is fairly rare.
