why do most private servers shut down? is it because of nexon, or do they willingly shut it down? what does this mean for the future of mapleroyals? how long do you think we have until the server is shut down?
It used to be Nexon, I don't think that's happening anymore, though. Most small servers shut down because of financial reasons (cost of servers without getting sufficient donations), but Royals has more than enough donations to sustain itself AFAIK. Extalia has been up for years on end now, Royals will probably follow in its footsteps. Unless Matt decides to shut it down.
These are the main reasons why any server is shut down... 1. Nexon actually does distribute a DMCA order for them to close their servers down. Either the owners aren't wary of their information being leaked or just aren't smart enough to cover their own asses so they think nothing is going to happen. (ex. ArcaneMS, EdenMS, LucidMS, etc) 2. Financial instability to which they aren't able to keep the server running because of no funds. 3. They're incapable of running a server and/or having the knowledge to constantly keep it up and working. A lot of the servers just take a source, slap a couple of name changes and release it, but fail to update it. 4. The server owners are not able to spend anymore time running and updating the server. It's strenuous for them to constantly keep updating the server when they have a large player base. Trying to meet the demands of the community. It's a tough job.
