Although I know the answer is probably gonna be obvious, I would just like to know why doesn't MapleRoyal's use a Patch Launcher? Y'know that window that has to patch before you can start a game with a big o'l Start button? (Like This: Spoiler ) It's just kind of a hassle having to uninstall, and re-download the set up just for new files to be implemented in.
I agree this would be a great addition and hopefully they will add it! But until then... you really only need to run the setup and install to the same place and it will just modify all the files it needs to. You don't need to 'uninstall' anything first. I just did the whole download/install in about 4 mins.
Something something new source client. In the past we could download separate new files and replace the old ones in our folders, but I think this has to be changed because of how new source client functions......... or something.
We do plan on implementing an auto-patcher in the future. The easiest way to do it would be for a patcher to download all the new wz files to replace the existing ones, however the problem with this is that the .wz files would need to be stored on our own servers to be downloaded (not a file sharing website), and the bandwidth costs for this would be fairly high. Let's presume 4000 players download 1.5GB's of files, that's 6TB bandwidth for both the server and the Ddos protection server. This would pretty much be double our current bandwidth usage per month. The better way of doing it, and what we plan to do, is have the patcher download only the changes made to each .wz file. Then have the patcher properly patch the changes into the local files on the client, rather than replacing entire files. This would use much less bandwidth and also make the latching process incredibly quick. This will be slightly more complicated to do but not by much. No ETA for a patcher right now though as our developer is still focussing on major fixes that the game still requires.
