Reason: Boss hunters hold multiple channels at once by killing a mob and ccing repeatedly then returning back to channels. Especially with mules, strong enough characters can hold many channels on their mule while killing on their main character.

Proposal: Remove mapowner upon changing channels.
1: You can no longer hold multiple channels by ccing, once you change channel mapowner is freed up.

I see no reason why someone should be able to hoard numerous channels to themself. One character should hold one channel, if they want to change channels and check for spawn they are free to do. Changing channels means leaving that area and such should mean losing ownership of that map. This doesn't hurt people who sell leech and go door to npc/use storage as they aren't leaving the channel in the first place.

    or this proposal by @DarkWingDuck

2: You retain mapownership when you change channels but lose ownership once you hit a mob in a new channel.

"I'd much prefer a system where you can only retain ownership of a single map.

    Example:
If you own HHG ch12 and change to ch13, this would not cause you to lose ownership of HHG ch12. But if you hit a monster in HHG ch13 and acquire ownership of that map, then ownership of HHG ch12 is lost.

This way, I could theoretically change to channel 1, door back to town, make a quick trade, door back to the map, change back to my original channel and continue farming without risk of losing my map ownership."

This alternative lets leechers retain mapownership in case they need to access an fm store located in another channel and return back.

Counter argument: This will benefit hackers who fast cc and make it impossible to track them.
Proposal: Make a secondary status that shows the previous hitter/mapowner so hackers cannot ban evade.

    so, just a random thought..

if i see the map is owned by (lets say) Lillie, but I don't see anyone in the map that is playing or anyone in the map at all, how does it stop me from taking over the channel?

I'm genuinely asking, as if someone is hanging afk i'll just ask him if he's here and if he is not, i'll do as i wish o.o

I don't think it's a big problem - unless of course this is forbidden and i must be afk until map owner is down.

From my understanding it's up to your discretion. If I have mapowner still but let's say I'm in another channel you kinda have to guess if I come back or not. I presume it's ok for you to start hitting in the map unless they come back but even then they should tell you to cc. It's a little ambiguous with less popular maps like HHG1 for example unless it's a popular leeching map like ulu 1. In my opinion removing mapowner upon ccing removes some of this ambiguity and should be another reason for its implementation.

I see where you're coming from.

But, as I see it and maybe some staff might see the same way - don't fix something that is not broken.

Mapowner system seems to work fine, and obviously if we see that someone is not here and the map is free - we can do as we wish.

If he comes back and tells us to cc, then sure, we can cc and move, but If he doesn't? we don't need to wait 3 minutes for mapowner to stop.

Imagine someone accidentally change channels and lose map ownership, then at that exact moment someone comes, sees that map owner is free, and take the map?

This idea has some potential problems (in my opinion of course).

The mapowner system as it is is ABSOLUTELY broken. The mapowner system is supposed to work as a protection mechanism against ks'ers, but in the situation @Yeongie is describing it is used as a weapon.

Certain individuals farm mapowner in multiple channels of the same area boss (mainly lyka and leviathan). You come in the map, don't see anyone assume the boss you just found is free. You start fighting the boss and a min or 2 in someone pops the mapowner in front of you, you get out or risk a ban (and believe me people who refused to cooperate have been banned for this non sense).

I refuse to believe this is how the mapowner system is supposed to work and so do many others:

    I like the idea.

I think if you accidentally cc, it's easy enough to come back in a second and attack again to regain mapowner. The likelihood that someone ccs within that 5 second window into your original channel is extremely low. Even if someone does, why is it the burden of the next guy that comes to wait to see if the original mapowner to come back? The original mapowner is the one who left either accidentally or not, they shouldn't have a right to the map anymore.

This change wouldn't affect mages selling leech either, dooring back to town to npc equips. I haven't personally ran into this problem but if there are people out there abusing this mechanism this way, I think this idea is great.

I do agree with you that in terms of area bosses this is indeed a huge problem.

The change could be made regarding known area boss locations (as you said - lyka, leviathan, even griffey or manon or w/e area boss you can think of that mapowner is being abused in) but an OVERALL change within all channels / maps seems pointless.

I don't think the mapowner system can be changeg only in some maps, so I'd say that my final opinion is that I'm neutral in this discussion.

Both ways (changing and not changing) have their pros and cons.

This is such a potential edge case, as mentioned before the mapowner command is there to protect from ksers not making 3 separate actions to accidently cc (how tf do you even do that be real).

Furthermore, the only people this extreme edge case affects is mage farmers (you have multiple chars per map so youre not gonna convince anyone that you accidently cced 4 chars in ice valley lmfao) or leechers. You would hard pressed to find maybe 5 times in royals history where people have "accidently" cced.

EDIT: think its pretty disingenuous to say pros/cons when the pros are: people cant hog high level boss maps, and the cons are: people who are high on drugs might accidently cc and lose their map in the 5s it takes to cc back

Might be useful to explore the cons a bit more for non-area boss maps maybe, but it doesn't seem like they're that clear. I can't think of a situation where you'd have to cc but you should still be entitled to the map.

I'm just sharing my opinion here.

I've personally accidentally cc'd while making multiple actions (and I don't smoke drugs), and even tho it is not reported, we all have missclicks and we all make mistakes - even the stupid ones / edge case ones.

What I think that can balance this issue out, is lowering the amount of time needed for map owner to drop.

As you guys said, these people who hit once and cc away can keep repeating it and hoard the maps, right? so if the mapowner duration (without any action taken by map owner) will be reduced to like 1 minute or something, shouldn't it solve the issue?

That way it won't hurt the leechers that goes back to town to sell their stuff to NPC, and it won't hurt mage farmers.

Not really... There is a decent likelihood that while you were looking for your boss you stumble upon the map hoarder, in which case they will notice you and go to action on the character they use for hoarding (they generally use a mage for hoarding the maps). There is still a decent chance they find you while fighting the boss. Or gratz you fight your one boss, but gl finding another one, cus they will stumble upon you and will bully you out of any other.

The only cons I've heard so far are hackers cc'ing (which OPs solution would solve) and "accidental" cc'ing (at which point you have actively made a mistake which IMO is a case of "too bad").

If the proposed solution is hard/impossible to implement the behaviour described should at least be bannable under the banner of Objectional Behaviour.

I like this idea even more, it lets people cc to access something if needed like go an fm store in another channel and return back to their map without losing map owner as long as they aren't hitting in another channel.

I would like the change. but if that's not possible, shortening the ~manpower duration to 1 minute as in other forum posts would be great as well. It is absolutely wrong to be holding 4 to 5 Channels just because of ~manpower. While they aren't even there, they would come in at the last second and act like they are victims of kill stealing when they weren't even on the map or have yet hit the boss for the past 3 minutes. And going as far as reporting people and getting them banned is just wrong.
