Sorry wall of text incoming tl;dr: Monsters are freezing up all the time and the results make the game impossible to play and make it seem like I'm hacking. Almost all my time (and I'm not exaggerating) is spent lagging for seemingly no real reason. I'll being fighting mobs and suddenly they will all stop moving. During this time I can still move, but I can't deal damage, pick up items, use portals, potions or interact with anything for the most part. Most of the time I can still attack and I will get damage numbers and mobs will be slightly knocked back, but the hp bar will not decrease. I can take damage as well and get knocked back but my hp wont update until the it clears up. When the lag clears, most items I tried to pick up will rush to me, some of the damage I dealt will be applied and my own HP and MP will update (Haven't died yet because I generally play it safe when this happens) I first thought this was just server lag but I asked my friends and they seem to not have this problem or get it infrequently for brief periods (It's taken more than 5 minutes recover before for me.) From their end it either looks like nothing is wrong with me (meaning I'm still moving normally) or I'll be doing weird crap like climbing up an infinite ladder or running in the air. Also if I type in chat, they get my messages pretty quickly but I can't see theirs or even my own until the lag clears. This still happens in completely empty towns too but it's harder to notice unless I try to talk to an NPC or something. This is really the only game (well GMS was fine the last time I used it) that has ever given me a problem like this.
Open up your command prompt and type ping royals.ms and copy/paste the results here for me. Sounds like you have a bad connection to the server.
Right after I posted I got on and didn't have too many issues. I even managed to get through a CPQ! It does seem like it has something to do with the server population, or at least the time of day. I was on for a short time after the server restarted recently and I no problems then. I bet when I log on right now I'll get the lag again. With that ping you shouldn't be experiencing any problems. There could be spikes however... But to notice those you may want to try doing 'ping royals.ms -t' so it pings constantly rather than just 4 times. And then when you get lag check the terminal and see if you notice a spike.
Strange thing is right now everything is flawless when I haven't had a single good day since I joined. I'll post again with new info if it happens consistently again.
I started getting the lag again so I ran the test continuously and noticed it timed out a lot, about 20% of the time. I guess I'm dropping packets somehow?
I used to get a problem a lot like this on GMS. It drove me insane. I then realised that it was happening between exact hours, i.e. 7 AM - 10 PM on weekdays (but then fine on weekends). I'm quite sure what was happening was that my ISP was messing around with the packets and dropping a lot of them (nothing in their terms and conditions said they did that). No calls to them helped. They were useless. It got weirder in that it was dependant on what character I was logged onto. My main always suffered from this, but if I didn't play my sides too often they'd be fine. If I played very much, then they'd be messed up too. I wonder if this is the same problem. What country are you in, if you don't mind me asking?
