To start with i want to say that this thread isnt about trying to correct how things are done around here. I appreciate all the effort and time the staff puts into Royals. With this said i want to discuss the possibilty of more frequent server checks. The reason i want this is because as most of you know the server get's to a point after around 3days of uptime where it starts to get unbossable. From my experience the odds of disconnecting from bosses like krexel/zakum after 3days uptime is over 60% and in my opinon it shouldnt be like that. Personally i have reached a point where i dont even want to make krexel re-warp threads anymore because i dont want to spam the character issue section, (And no i have a good internet connection so its not that i dc because of my net) Now my real question is if its possible to re-start the server more often? I think it should be around 3days uptime since thats when the lag normally starts to kick in. TL : DR, can we restart the server more often so we dont lag out of bosses and bitch about it. ~Boshy
If you notice, we usually try to restart the server around the 3 day mark. Typically, someone in staff mentions we're nearing 3 days uptime and we decide to do a restart, as long as an admin is around and free to do one.
I don't think there is actually much correlation with lag being worse after X days of uptime. Like right now we have recently restarted the server and it is already pretty laggy. We have found restarting the server every 3 or 4 days usually prevents odd occurances like channels disappearing, and seems like a suitable amount of time between restarts to fix any broken smega channels.
I kind of want to throw out a thought about lag over time from last server check... Is it at all possible that a restart is more of a placebo than anything when it comes to lag? For some reason, it's always been regarded by the private server community at large that a server restart is the one stop fix to all lag on a server, and that's been pretty ingrained into our heads as a result. What I'm proposing is that maybe the lag is just as bad on the first couple days as it is on the 3rd or 4th day and we just don't really notice it because we just had a restart and we expect it to go away? Whereas on the later days we say "here we go again, lf> restart." Of course I have no actual numbers or facts to back that up, I just wanted to say it because I've always kind of thought that that's kind of interesting. One thing I will mention is that, to my knowledge, the server freezes we get now and then, while uncommon, are completely exclusive to server restarts and so can happen at any time, 10hr uptime or 100hr uptime. But I'm not an expert on behind the scenes.
