As a huge fan of GM events, I always love it when GMs are able to host smoothly running, fun, and varied event types. While the standard arsenal of events is good (RR, JQ, T/F, Betrayal Q/A, Hide n'Seek), it wouldn't hurt to both host a greater variety of the existing types as well as host some new events. Within my time on private servers, one of my favorite events was called "Last Man Standing." The premise is pretty simple - the last player(s) on the map remaining are the winners. However, the different ways of executing this event allow for players to display different skill sets or rely on the gods of luck just as in RR. Below, I've outlined the basic rules for two variations of the event. Variation 1 - Bombs Bombs Everywhere! Conventional map: OX Map Unconventional map: Sleepywood JQ step 4 (and of course other maps as well) Rules: Players will have a set amount of time to spread out on a restricted portion of the map that has platforms above a uniform, "ground" surface. For example, on the OX map, a GM could restrict players to one side, and the uniform "ground" surface would be the very bottom platform. On the Sleepywood map (https://mapletip.com/maplestory-locations/The+Deep+Forest+of+Patience+<Step+4>/105040313), a GM could restrict players to the bottom "half" of the map, with the middle vertical rope marking the upper boundary of the event arena. For this map, the uniform ground surface would be the entirety of the bottom walking area in the map. The upper boundaries of each map can be enforced by spawning a godly Trixter on the rope/ladder leading to the next section (rope in Sleepywood map; ladder in OX map for each side). After setting the boundaries of the map, a GM will go into hide and set a timer to allow for players to spread out throughout the available platforms. At this point, once the timer is up, the GM will stun the map and spawn an Ariant-PQ style bomb on the platform he/she decided to choose before allowing players to spread out. The explosion will cause many to recoil off the platform and onto the "ground surface," which would result in being kicked from the event. What makes this event slightly different from a RR is that (1) players have a small chance of getting a "Miss" from the bomb, which means having the bomb on your platform does not immediately guarantee kick, and (2) the bomb's blast radius can potentially hurt players on nearby plats, so one can never feel too safe unless he/she is very far from the bomb. But in a nutshell, this is just a spiced-up version of RR. The last several players remaining/standing in the map after all the bomb rounds are the winners. Variation 2 - Run From the GM! (personal preference, but has more potential room for complaints) Conventional map: OX Map Unconventional map: At GM's discretion (I've never played this variation on a map other than the OX Map) Rules (as applied to the OX map): Players will have a set amount of time out on the entirety of the OX map. Once the timer is up, the GM (starting off in a corner of the map) will begin to chase after players. The GM will have a certain skill that kills players within a certain radius of using the skill (the most frequently used kill-skill in my experience was Threaten (Page skill)). The rest of the event is simple - run from the GM and try to be the last player(s) alive in the map. One variation within this variation allows for skills to be used, so partying with a Bishop would enable strategic resurrections. Pre-requisites/restrictions/potential complaints to the event: (1) GM "bias" (because the GM hosting has the freedom to potentially chase after a specific player in the event, there may be complaints about personal preference for certain event participants) - haven't really thought about a good way to remedy this problem (2) Excessive skill spamming (esp. by archmages) may lead to disconnection/lag problems in the variation with party+resurrection - remedy: disable skills (3) EXP loss - remedy: edit map for no EXP loss I would love to hear some feedback on these suggestions! I may have missed some points/descriptions, so please feel free to ask questions for clarification.
