Hello! I recently joined the server and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Ivar, I'm a 20 year old guy living in the Netherlands that has a passion for gaming and music. Especially liquid drum and bass and Jazz. Yes, those are two entirely different genres.. I'm in my first year of my bachelor in Sociology. I'm really enjoying it so far as I have been interested in (social) human action in social groups and societies for most of my life. I once wanted to become a game developer. After doing extensive research about education in it, I found out that there are tons of studies that will simply offer you close to no perspective at a bright future. They are too basic and too easily accessible to the masses (no high requirements) and therefore attended by way too many people. Finishing one of those studies right now, this day, will almost guarantee you to find a job instantly. But in a couple of years the competition will be so intense that finding a good job will become very hard. This is already happening even today. There were a few exceptions of studies that go very in-depth and require you to have a fairly high understanding of mathematics. I started learning these mathematics and even though I didn't find myself having too much problems with it, I found it so extremely dull and did not enjoy it at all that it made me think that it would be too hard for me having to work with it for practically the rest of my life. This is why I dropped the idea of becoming a game developer and followed my other passion which I found in Sociology. I started playing MapleStory Global just before Windia came out and have moved to that server ever since. I equally like a lot of classes, but my GMS main has been Aran ever since it came out. It still proudly wears the Combo King medal! I quit playing for long periods of time when the Big Bang patch arrived, but did come back every now and then to try out the new classes and content. Since you'd go through that in no time, I'd usually be done playing soon enough and that is the major thing that I'm missing in the current MapleStory. I want to have a reason to stay around for a while. Although I still really enjoy the game how it is today, if I take a distance from the pay to win aspect and just play my own char, I always come back to pre-BB private servers as they are just way more enjoyable to me. Not only because of what I just explained, but also because of its simplicity and how it is way more community oriented. I like the earlier levels and usually quit or roll a toon once I've gotten to a high (~160-180) level. Although I've made it there pretty fast, multiple times, I've never made it past 180 on a low rates private server, since I'm usually just not motivated enough to carry on from that point. At some point doing Anego's and HTs becomes a chore instead of a fun experience for crazy loot that you enjoy doing together with a group! I used to think that my ideal rates would be around 15-20x, but at some point I realized that I really don't enjoy being level 160 in a week and I end up getting bored too quick. I am, however, done with 1x/1x/1x for a while and feel like 4x/4x/2x will be the perfect balance for a change. I made myself believe that hitting those higher levels and getting the big damage as soon as I humanly can will be the ultimate reward of playing the game, but I found out that this is not the case for me. That's why I want to enjoy slowly making my way up in this server, while doing loads of quests and PQs and hopefully meeting some great people among the way! If there is one bad habit that private servers made me develop, it is that I must HP wash before I can have peace with my characters. The convenience of it and how it is in reach in private servers (because of free NX), has made me feel like it just has to be done. Looking at the time investment this takes, I'm going to start out by making a cleric. (Saying cleric, since I don't want to be looking at 4th job for a while yet). Not only because of that, I also just really feel like playing one and I think I'll enjoy it a lot and they're always a good way to get into a party(quest) faster! Then if I ever really can't resist the urge, I'm going to roll a pure int attacker and leech it! I'm going to set my goals low, so I won't push myself too much and enjoy playing for much longer. My preference goes out to version 0.83, but ultimately I prefer a bigger community over a handful of extra content. After reading a thing or two about the server, I'm convinced that this server can provide me a home. The extra content added by the developers, such as Temple of Time, sure help with this and make me feel like the server is hosted by a professional and dedicated team. I will probably not be too active for two reasons. One is because I'm a bit busy with Uni and work and the second is partially of what I just described. If I play too much I really just end up grinding and rushing... rushing to the point where I think that the fun begins, but in reality to the point where I get bored and will probably quit. So I'm going to take it easy! Things that I've never done in MapleStory that I'm hoping to do in MapleRoyals if I do eventually end up playing long enough: -Doing APQ & OPQ: I was never married and for some reason I've just never gotten around to doing OPQ. Maybe once, but I can hardly remember it. -Being able to solo BFs in a non-tedious way: I've played corsair and marksman a lot (most of the time actually) and even though it is possible to solo BFs with them, it is really tedious and not effective. I've rarely played any of the attackers that can pin BFs more easily and take them down efficiently. I'm leaning towards making a DrK if I ever get to the point of creating a second character. -Killing Pink Bean: Never done it on a low rates server. Will be a really, really, really long term goal that I will probably not get to, but I'm just going to put it on the list anyways. -Soloing Zakum: Another long term goal. I've done it on a server that had 30X rates together with some custom very strong equips. Therefore I don't count it as a legit kill and I still want to do it on a low rates server some day. -Doing CWKPQ as a non-looter: I've gotten a few MoNs, but never actually participated in completing the PQ. I know that this will likely not be added in MapleRoyals, but who knows. I am also interested in joining a guild that frequently does GPQ and the other PQs. I'm going to roll a new character later today so I will drop my IGN in this post as soon as I have done so. Feel free to add me in game!
Welcome to royals! I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here, as many of us have as well. I've noticed a few of your goals are not possible in royals however.. Sadly. We do not have pink bean. (with the current state of the players we wouldn't even come close to taking it down anyway) We do not have cwkpq, however there's been a suggestion a while ago (by myself, shameless self advertising) with a TON of support. So we're hoping we do get this pq Other than that the rest seems reasonable enough. Goodluck on your journey
Welcome, Ivar, to MapleRoyals! I think you'll like it here. Chat up some people and make friends, and the fun will last much longer. See you around~
Thank you! I just rolled my character named "Alternate". I'm looking forward to meeting some of you guys as I play. Pink bean is really one of those things that I would want to do some day, but not necessarily in the near future. The fact that the pink bean battle is not in the game therefore doesn't bother or disappoint me at all. Players of the official servers had troubles killing it when it was first released, attempting to kill it in a version even before its official release would be even more of a challenge. The addition of CWKPQ in the future would be amazing. It sounds really great that there was a lot of support for the idea of adding it. Who knows! Also congrats Sybe for being assigned as a GM. I just saw the announcement. I haven't met you in person yet, but I wish you all the luck.
Hey! Welcome to Royals! Aren't you the bucc called Ivar from MapleFables? If so, add me, i may help you with some leeching and stuff, I used to play Fables too
If this is the case, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one from Fables that migrated here. Welcome to the server!
Thanks guys! And yes, I'm Ivar from Fables. Whichever low rates server I go to, I'll always meet a few Fablers there. That is really great to see! I'll add you guys in game.
Amoria PQ is pretty popular for Onyx Apple farming (which is the best attack booster in game), but Orbis PQ is quite buggy and barely anyone goes there anyway. Solo Zakum is quite possible and I've heard people accomplishing this in around 1.5 hours. Soloing Bigfoot is pretty easy, but if your attack speed goes over (3), then Bigfoot will have invincibility frames and attacks will go through. The optimal method for dispatching of Bigfoot is a Hero with a Dragon Claymore+Sword Booster.
Nice knowing about APQ, now I just need to spam smegas with "LF>GF" for the next few months, or roll a female character. Is Orbis PQ buggy to the point that the chances of not completing it because it will bug out are very high, or just because some things within the PQ are not working as intended? If it is the latter and you can still complete it, I'd probably just try to get some people together to do it and see how far we can get. Soloing Zakum on a legit, low rates server is really a long term goal that'll be one of those huge achievements for me. I did have an 18x corsair on Leaftown (if you know that server), but I never got around attempting it before the server got shut down. And thanks for the explanation about an optimal way of soloing BFs. I haven't ever played a Hero before so I'll definitely leave that option open.
Joining a guide usually alleviates the issue of searching for a significant other in game. I've personally never tried OPQ so I don't know the exact issues. Of course, you could easily hunt Bigfoot with other classes, but just keep in mind that your weapon speed can cause deaths as Bigfoot's touch damage is around 12,000.
