Hi I have recently come back to Royals after a few years absent. I started playing on my I/L Mage again, that is now lv 124, however, I had already spent some AP in LUK, which means I have LUK mage gears atm. I want to go lukless, but I'm unsure what equips to go for. I have managed to find a bathrobe with 19 int at a decent price. For helmet, is zak helm the way to go? What does VIP runs mean? Can I loot all helmets then? Do I bring the eye? What is a fair price to pay for this? Looking at YAC, the price guide states TMA, not int, how do I convert int to MA? Thanks in advance!
Welcome back! I know you said you're an ice lightening, but this guide has quite a nice gearing section, and I think the only difference really is the proper elemental wand you'll want to use. Lukless mages can still get enough luk from common items (Zhelm, rings, pendant, face, eye) in order to wear low level mage gear that starts out with some int. You'll see this in the gear guide. Typically these are Lvl ~35 gloves, 25-38 overalls, etc. Zak helm is the way to go, or scar/tar helms. A VIP run means you go on the run, and any helm that drops is yours for the taking. Since the Zhelm itself is a one-of-a-kind item, you may only hold 1 at a time. Thus, you loot, check the stats, and reloot if the stats aren't satisfactory. Note that Zhelms are subject to the godly system. You're only job is to pay afterwards (typically 60m) and survive (stay bottom left and keep your hp/mp and magic guard up.) You need to bring 1 eye to enter, but otherwise you do not need to drop one. As for cape, you can get a purple gaia cape, which is fairly cheap for starting out with about 7 m.att clean (about 10m). You can scroll one of these for int. Events like Vday/Christmas offer untradeable 10 slot capes which you can make really nice (christmas fur lump has special scrolls which add +4 int per at a 70% chance, but can boom. So the highest potential int is +40 int!) TMA means "total magic attack". Since 1 int = 1 magic attack, people simply add the two stats together. Note however that int is slightly more valuable, as it effects the amount of mp you gain per level (+10 int = 1 extra mp per level). Also, int provides magic defence whereas m.att does not. Hope this has answered all your questions!
Thank you a lot, very helpful! The only question I have now is what zhelm to "stay" on when looting, what int stat is fairly good and worth keeping?
Sure thing. For your first helm, especially when new and on a budget, you probably want to settle with 16/17 int. Note that some luk would be nice too, so perhaps at least 15 luk would be good. You should scroll the helm with Helmet for int 60% scrolls when you have the funds. When you're well funded or experienced, you can start hunting for a better helm (and scroll it better if your previous 60% scrolling didn't work out as well.)
list of gears to go for: Helmet: Either zhelm or targar helm int/luk(both drop in one run). vip targar is typically around 110m, can sometimes find cheaper if they're nice enough to sell to you for cheap like 10m off. Earrings: 32 tma+ single earrings. 32 tma should be good enough though if you settle for those. Overall: doros robe with at least 30 int+. you can go for a starlight if you reach 40 luk through your helmet and pendant. Horntail pendant: you want high luk+int. The luk from the htp will help you equip required luk equips such as the starlight I mentioned above and lapiz sandles. Face accessory: maple leaf with high int, can be obtained from either sleepywood or showa gach. Gloves: Flamekeeper Cordon with around 27+ tma which would be good enough, unless you want to be a lot stronger then aim for 30+ tma. Eye accessory: white racc mask with at least 11-13 int Cape: Can go with either a purple gai or a crimsonheart cloak Shoes: if you manage to get enough luk you can wear a lapiz sandle. aim for 13-16 tma clean. Shield: maple shield 29 tma+. weapon: Elemental wand 7 with around 180 tma plus will give you enough to one shot most mobs. Vip means you get all the helms for the amount of runs you paid for. Example: if you paid 60m for vip zak, you get all the helms for 1 run. for 2 runs you gotta pay another 60m. You need an eye of fire to enter the alter, but do not need to give it to the seller as payment. TMA means int+magic. Example: purple gai cape with 7 magic and 6 int= 13 tma.
Alright, ill go for that once I have the funds Thanks! But I think this is for players with a liiiittle bit more money than I currently have But this gives me some pointers as what to work towards, thank you for replying!!
Usually your gear is tailored to the type of content you want to do on your mage - you can't de-level your account so you will want to put some thought into this If you're looking to sell leech, its a little more involved than just buying int gears. Usually you will have your end game map in mind, for now we'll say petri, you would look at what the minimum magic you would need to 1 hit (1257, if over 1k int) and min-max your meso budget from there. Most people look to 1 hit petri at around 145-160 (and remain at that level) as the funds required to 1 hit before 140 are significantly higher. Also you would want additional account to provide HS for your party, this can be level 80/81. Ways to work you way up to petri would be selling leech at: Harps/Ulu1/Ulu2, these are all great maps with great meso/hr If you're looking to farm on your mage (there are tons of great maps for this) its definitely more relaxed gear wise. However, you begin to lose leech opportunities as you gain levels past 160 which some of the more serious maps might require to access or 1 hit If you're able to post a budget range people should be able to give more accurate gear options for you
I dont really understand this. Why would I want to de-level my character? I am playing for fun and have no other character. I am not one for min-maxing, at least not at this point where I'm relatively new to the game. What leeching opportunities goes away after 160? Selling or buying? I am currently sat at ~16m. However, I do have an clean perf ST that I am looking to sell, but this has proven to take some time.
A person buying leech from you loses more exp/per kill the higher level you are from him. If you are too high, your buyers will choose someone else to leech them because you dont give as much exp for the same price/rate compared to a lower level seller. The best exp comes from a low level leecher who has barely enough total magic attack to kill the mobs in 1 hit. What level that is depends, but for wraith/mb1/mb2/ftp, this is a lvl 120 bishop with 1-3 point into genesis. A high level seller for these maps might be max lvl 135, and since a 120 seller gives his leechers more exp, the 135 leecher has to reduce his price or he gets pushed out of the market. Thats why you want to stay at a low level as possible for your target leech-endgame-map. For ulu1/2 the 127-140 range is acceptable. Note that I skipped stormbreakers and windraider leech because theyre not worth selling since they give low money on equips. MB1 sucks too. After 160, your mage can already 1 hit the last map that leechers need leech for (Petri). So theres no need to level up your character after 155-160ish because you cant sell leech anymore. Or you have to sell cheaper rate to get buyers. If you are still lv 124 at the time of reading this, keep selling low level leech until you can afford enough mage gear to 1 shot petris at the lvl 147-152 range. Do not level to 147-152 without having your gear first. Otherwise you cant sell petri if you cant 1 shot it, and youre too high lvl for low level leech maps too. You would be stuck since you have no way of making money aside from ulu1/2 ( and you'd still be on the high side). Or you can join a duku trio mage leech group and hover at around lvl 130 with no need for good equips. If you are playing for fun, you can just lvl to 200 by solo grinding and ignore everything I wrote here.
Sooo, the mage is nothing but a tool for making money and not really used at higher levels to do bosses and such? :/ Would I need to make an HS mule to sell leech? What HS skill level do I need, is 1 okay? Do you have any other suggestions for actual "good" classes that require low funding?
Out of the 3 mages, only bishops are used in boss runs for HS and ress. For attackers, Bossing parties only want classes that do the most dmg which happen to require the most funding like (NL,Corsair). Since you have an IL and not a bishop, youll need an HS mule so you gotta level up a second character like nerd said. Leave it at 81 since thats enough for 30 SP for maxed HS. Not having an HS mule means your buyers lose a huge chunk of exp. All petri sellers have one. The players in this game are hardcore and this is the main way that ppl use the mage class sadly.
