Hi guys, so I want to make a new char, and really can't decide between NL and corsair, both seem so good <3 Maybe I just start with what I think about those two: So I heard that corsairs are better solo, and they're better in "normal" boss runs (i.e. with SE, apples, maybe SI) if they had 100% boat time, but in reality their boat breaks from time to time, putting their dps behind the NL's. So now I have a couple of questions: I know that NL's can't attack if mobs are too close; can corsairs? How does the corsairs attack range (i mean the distance) compare to a NL's? Just out of curiosity, that would be a nice perk for me could one of those two classes solo zak at some point in, say, 2 hours? If so, which is better/faster? If a corsair is really good at dismounting the ship, can they achieve a higher dps than NL at, say, Horntail, if both have really godly equips and SE and SI and appling? Just in theory, wouldn't it be easier to get a perfect clean dragon revolver than a perfect purple dragon sleeve, as you can craft the former and can only get the latter from kerning gach? Corsairs battleship: so right now the cooldown increases with the skill level, that's why you should leave it at level 1. I heard this is gonna change with the new source, so that the cooldown decreases and reaches 1.5 mins at level 10, is this true? So yeah, I know that such a topic is highly subjective and everybody enjoys something else, I just hope to get some input from more experienced players to help me make a decision. Those points above (so many quesitons ) are some things I personally would consider, of course I'd also love to hear/read your experiences with either class, other aspects you like or dislike. So yeah, looking for input from you pros
As someone who mains a corsair and has partied with countless NLs in boss runs (whether it be krex/zak/HT), I'll try to answer your questions as honestly as possible, without bias. 1. Corsairs, unlike NLs, can attack even if they are close to mobs. However, I don't see this being a huge problem except for maybe at Zak, where flying mobs can be a bit of a pain. While NLs will occasionally be punching mobs, corsairs are able to shoot through all mobs because of their Bullseye skill, which allows you to lock onto one target (and deal more damage to that target). 2. Corsairs have a shorter attacking distance in comparison to NLs; however, I have never really had a problem as a corsair in where I was unable to reach a certain body part of a boss. Even when you are pressed against the wall during zak, your Battleship Cannon attack will reach the body. If you use rapid fire, however, you will have to move slightly forward for your attacks to reach. 3. Both classes would be able to solo zak. However, I think it would be considerably harder for an NL to do so because of the mobs, while corsairs get Bullseye as I stated earlier. You would also have to bring along an SE friend or your own mule, which would be more of a hassle in comparison to solo'ing on a corsair. 4. Assuming you have SE and SI and are attacking a brick wall (i.e. the former krex), you will definitely be out-DPSing an NL of the same level equips on apples. That said, however, I rarely out-DPS other NLs of my level at HT (although I am definitely not the best dismounter out there), even when SI is available. In my honest opinion, you will never be outdamaging an NL of the same equips at HT's legs. This is because you will have to watch out not only for the leg stomp, but also the attacks from all 3 heads, as well as the tail slap which you will NOT be able to see from your side (assuming you start killing legs first from the left). Once wings, tail, and legs are down, however, I believe with SE and SI, you could possibly white an NL on the heads. With each head that goes down, there will be less attacks to watch out and dismount for, and it will become progressively easier to white an NL. 5. Yes, actually I believe there is an 88 att clean Revolver on the market right now. Perfect revolvers are much, much easier to come across in comparison to perfect Dragon Purple Sleeves. This is not only because you can't craft purple sleeves, but also because Sleeves come along with a luk stat, and I believe there has never been a clean 60 att 13 luk sleeve, even with all the people gaching at Kerning. If someone does gach one, the selling price will undoubtedly be incredibly high. In comparison, 88 att revolvers are worth 2.5 to 3b at the moment. 6. Yes, I believe this is how the changes will work. Level 10 Battleship will increase your boat's HP by 40k compared to Level 1 Battleship, and will still have the same cooldown time. Personal thoughts (biased): Firstly, I really hate re-buffing. It's not the actual re-buffing process that I don't like, it's more about how I need to remember to re-buff each time. Just like how heroes often forget to recast ACA, there are many times where I think I would forget to re-cast things like shadow partner. I just don't like the number of buffs I need to have to worry about recasting, and I like the simplicity of corsairs where all I have to do is booster and MW (sometimes not even MW if someone else in my HT party casts it). Secondly, you get into bossing parties more easily in my opinion. Let's say I'm assembling a Horntail party. I have 3 warriors and 1 corsair, and am looking for 2 more ranged attackers. If I could find two corsairs I would go with that over 1 NL and 1 BM/MM, just because BMs and MMs are so hard to find, especially because most HT parties need them and there aren't a huge number of BM/MMs that are active and are able to HT. Last, I really like how my DPS output is somewhat reliant on my skills as a player. Although Maplestory is a really easy game, playing an NL makes it even easier, and I feel like when you white on a corsair at places like HT, you can feel better about it. Although I did not choose corsair over NL for these reasons, those were some things that I think make corsairs a better class for me. Perhaps you can weigh these opinions of mine against someone else who argues that NLs have it better, and choose for yourself.
the NL is easier to play and will out DPS a corsair considering equal equips + buffs because there is no such thing as a brick wall boss. NLs are the #1 DPS character the NL is more expensive the NL is more fun (not biased, i have both corsair and NLs and everyone must share my opinion )
If you don't mind dismounting your battleship every attack, pick Corsairs. If you have a Sharp Eyes mule and your computer and take running multiple clients, pick NL.
Thank you all for your replies, especially thank you @Kivin for your detailed and helpful response, I really appreciate it I do like the idea of my dps relying on my skill, but what I would dislike is the fact that, under perfect circumstances, I can't beat NL as corsair in terms of dps, no matter how good I get at dismounting the boat (is this true? Wouldn't that mean that corsairs are harder to play, but still have less potential than NL? That would be...kind of meh ) Say there's a corsair god with perfect gear and a NL with perfect gear, both have all buffs at horntail. As I understand the NL will do higher damage, because just because of the time the corsair needs to mount/dismount to dodge incoming damage (and thus can't attack) they lose out a good chunk of dps?
You sir are absolutely correct. Someone buy my revolver pls <3 http://royals.ms/forum/threads/welc...23-7-thief-top-8-att-pgc-mummy-mask-nx.49449/
