RoyalPatcher says MapleRoyals does not wish to work on a third party game patcher (why is this even in the installer..?) Lovely Greetings, Gi No idea why this is happening, I haven't touched this folder aside from using the game patcher. Anyone know?
Mapleroyals doesn't have a patcher. That was something Gi (a former dev who left on not the greatest terms) released on his own, and is not supported or endorsed by MR or its staff. If you downloaded your MR files directly from the main site, you shouldn't have this file at all.
Notsureifsrs because the only files I have are the ones downloaded from the website RoyalPatcher is not in anyone elses folders?
RoyalPatcher is in mine. I did a full download 2 weeks ago (new laptop) I guess the staff will need to remove that, as clearly Gi put it there and it should not be there. Edit: Actually, I think what has happened is that it was originally MaplePatcher.exe, which is in the official version, and it was never removed, and so Gi felt the need to add a message that is rather unprofessional, and was probably towards the end of his time here.
We already know about this and the patcher will be removed next time we do a patch. Gi made the patcher some time after he had left the staff and we didn't want him to release it without us testing it thoroughly and discussing changes that needed to be made. The patcher got placed in with the game files for testing (by us, not by Gi) and should have been removed after testing, but it accidentally got left in when we made the setup package - oops!
I just want to say that I should not have made the assumptions I have about Gi. I'm sorry to Gi. I don't know the full story, and I don't want to know it, so I should not be negative about him on the forum when I don't know. And it turned out my assumptions were incorrect anyway, as Kat has pointed out. Anyway, Kat has said the patcher will be removed, and no harm has been done to anybody with it anyway, so all will be good, and I am grateful to Gi for the things he did for this game in his time as a developer. A good software engineer looks out for problems that need solving, which is all that Gi has really done with this patcher, and I'm sure he meant well with it. I live in a country where bandwidth is expensive, so if Gi's patcher had been a success then I would have benefitted greatly from it. Personally I think the potential issues with the patcher could be addressed, maybe they will be in future
Well, as we'll be moving over to the new source during the coming months, I would imagine that any new patcher is likely to be written by Kevin, since he built the new source from the ground up.
