Hello, It's been a long time since I last came here and I can see the player base has gone down since summer holidays over. However that's definitely not the only reason the player base is not as high anymore. Firstly, the bans. Of course I know it has been talked about already. But a perm ban for account sharing is too stupid. Players should be allowed to do whatever they want with their own accounts and if their items or information gets stolen, it's their fault for sharing the account with the WRONG person. I can see a number of loyal players such as Hanny and Dini banned for something like account sharing. Secondly, the bans for botting or hacking. I believe they shouldn't be perm banned as well. At least not on the first offense.. I've been playing the top server on the list for a while now and I can see why they are the top for reasons. One of them is their leniency. A friend was banned for botting a xenon but it was merely a week and not an IP ban. You can see what the point I'm trying to make here. Seriously, I'm disappointed. If you guys gave some leeway I'm pretty sure the number of players now would be higher and yeah. Just giving my two cents. And no I'm not related to the two players mentioned above in anyway. Was just looking thru and saw them banned and found the reason dumb.
Botters here get banned for a week as well. It should be perma. People who break the rules are not welcome. 200 players with 0 cheaters is preferable to 1000 players with illegits. Account sharing has been discussed in depth in another thread.
Perhaps the hack detection system should be improvised.. Look at the top server, I don't even see any hackers around and their GMs are way more proficient and it's just a few of them. I'm just here to give my two cents and I wouldn't even bother if I didn't play and love this server months ago.
If you're talking about Extalia: That server rakes in thousands of dollars a month. It is a business. We are an enthusiast community. The coders are all actual professionals, and are paid. GMs are paid as well. Ours are volunteers.
Like Ague said, they are a business, by taking the top spots in Maplestory Private Server rankings, they are conducting the private server under the basis of earning money, unlike this server, which provides fun and enjoyment as something similar to a "Close-knit" community if you were to put it. I'm not saying low player base is good, but this server has an excellent "level" of player base, at the right number for people to make close ties with each other in an active community. Because there is more reliance? Or something like that, because everything is transparent, you even see GMs post their daily life stories here. The GMs in Extalia probably have a office with a bunch of people on their computers either coding or working in-game or side-jobs on a full-time shift or night-shift basis.
I'm actually glad the player base went down a bit since summer break. It might sound a little bit selfish of me but finally gs2 channels are not crowded anymore (grind til' I die baby!), channels not being sold thru smega and there are way less reports about gs2 and FoG ksing. Now the staff have more free time to focus on other areas to improve the server overall. EDIT: Definitely love that this is a close-knit community.
Pretty much this. It's not hard to play within the rules, so I have no sympathy for those who choose to play outside them.
You claim the player base has gone down because of bans that you feel were made unfairly? There is a message in-game that asks the players to review the Terms and Conditions before getting started. There have been countless examples on the ban appeal section in the forums of players breaking the rules, and paying for it. Why would future players even put themselves into a situation that they know is going to get them banned? The fact that they even appeal some of these bans is ridiculous. Every player agreed to the repercussions when they first logged into the server, as did all the players who got caught sharing accounts and/or hacking. If people are leaving because they feel the penalties are too harsh for account sharing/hacking, I say good riddance. Take 5 minutes out of your playing time, read the Terms and Conditions, and then decide if you want to stay or not. Don't waste the GM's time by getting banned and then having the nerve to demand an explanation.
I have a better suggestion: Don't break rules. If you succeed with that, then there's nothing to fear.
No, because making hack bans temp suggests that "you are allowed to use hacks once, until you are caught". We already have that problem with vote abuse; the three strikes rule there leads to people abusing it until caught.
For what it's worth, we are discussing possible changes to the bans for account sharing and botting, also making the rules themselves clearer and more readable. (Some of the legal-speak in the current rules is a little... offputting.) Hacking, however, will always remain a permanent ban.
