I've done some research on this, and these are my findings: If you unequip a freshly-named pet before relogging, the name will be lost. If you go into the Cash Shop with a freshly-named pet, the name will not be lost. If you relog or dc to the login screen with a freshly-named pet, the name will not be lost. If you dc completely (because of server reboot) with a freshly-named pet, the name will not be lost. If you have lost your pet's name by unequipping it, the name will still show up when you hover over the pet in your inventory and you will be unable to rename your pet to that name until you have cc-ed or visited the Cash Shop. (This is unlikely to be an issue to non-GM characters, as regular players will have to visit the Cash Shop for a new Pet Name Tag!!) Please note: this applies to naming a new pet for the first time and also to re-naming an existing pet. Still to be investigated: Do you lose your pet's (new) name if the server crashes or your internet d/cs before you relog? How to avoid losing your pet's (new) name: As soon as you have named/renamed your pet, relog without unequipping the pet. If a GM could test my findings out on the live server, it would useful!
