I've recently started to attend more and more HT runs, but so far I've died in more than half the runs I've been on, which led me to make this post. I've heard a lot that 5.6k HP is the minimum HP I should have to survive HT's attacks (for ranged classes). My HP is at 5586 and I'm a corsair - from what I've experienced, this doesn't seem to suffice? Also, is 5.6k HP the minimum HP required to survive with or without HB? @Tim 's HT thread seems to suggest that 5.6k is a pre-HB requirement, and that you actually need 9k+ HP to survive. Lastly, does which side you're attacking Horntail from affect the HP you'd need to survive? EDIT: One last question; will this required HP change with the release of the new source? (I know something will change in the way Horntail will be killed, but I have too little knowledge of how Horntail works as of now to understand how the new source will impact me) One of many deaths </3
It all depends on what your team is doing with certain body parts. If they leave the wings active (to deal more damage over time) you need some more HP than that (Wings can mage atk you up to 8100). You can also get combo'd out by the falling rock and an attack from HT which would be more than the 5600 that you need. Basically it's possible to do HT on 5600 HP like you experienced but it can become difficult depending on circumstances.
@Tim Thanks for the reply, I don't really understand the process of freezing HT body parts but that's another problem altogether
As long as legs and tail are frozen you should be ok with 5.6k (keep in mind that with 5.6k hp you will have to keep your HP at 100% at all times so you gotta drink a pot even if you get hit for 100 dmg). From personal experience I've never been kill in one shot by wings (I have 6.7k hp) and we have been leaving them active on every run for a while now. So I don't think wings are doing M.att at all (or I've been extremely lucky.... which I highly doubt). As Tim said the combo HT att + falling rock is quite deadly for low HP characters so drink a potion ASAP if you get hit in mid air when you jump into the right wall and fall (since you will land into a falling rock spot). For freezing body parts this is how it works; When your party kills the 2nd prehead, the order you enter the next portal will determine who is target for what part of horntail (1st is tail, 2nd is wings, 3rd is legs, 4th is right hand, 5th is left hand, 6th and 7th are head A and C, 8th is head B AKA dispel) so the same way you freeze Krexel (making the target for him stay all the way down, out of range of Krexel attacks), people has to stay out of range of the part they are target for. So tail, wings and legs targets can stay all the way up to freeze those, and hand targets can stand on the opposite side to freeze them. Hope that helps
I see Thanks for the explanation about freezing body parts too; do wings deal the most damage to ranged classes? (excluding of course, the tail)
Legs are quite deadly too when they are active. I don't know how much dmg the stomp does but I know it can kill me in one shot.
Also, according to Pheelo's HP Washing guide, HT does 7.8k magic damage assuming that's the max it does.
