I loved the Harry Potter series, despite the staggering number of flaws. They left out some key aspects of the book or changed them, it bothered me... This example is a classic. I myself am also a fan of Disney movies; I didn't really like Frozen, unlike many others, though. My favourite Disney movies are probably Tangled and the Lion King. Another [recent] movie I liked (genre twist) is Prometheus. And finally, to pull out a good ol' classic: Back to the Future! (And not because the main character is called Marty.)
I am primarily a peruser of television series and so am far from a cinephile, but I shall list a few I enjoyed particularly. I am also a believer in the notion of knowing nothing of a movie, television show or book before giving it your attention—I find it makes for a more meaningful experience—and for this reason I won't drone endlessly about the films below. 2001: A Space Odyssey is groundbreaking and, quite worthy of note, not worse than its namesake novel (they are different, but none lesser than its counterpart; they were written in conjunction, not one based on the other). Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is a fantastic film. Thoroughly marvelous. To take something as deadly serious as nuclear holocaust and reduce it to comedy of the highest order is nothing short of remarkable. (Yes, I like Kubrick.) Exam is a wonderfully tantalising psychological thriller. The Great Dictator is on this list for much the same reason as Dr. Strangelove, though it is in many ways different. This speech, if nothing else, makes watching the film worth your time. The Matrix is, contrary to its sequels, a terrific collection of moving pictures. Serenity, because I'm a leaf on the wind. The Truman Show is the quintessential counterargument to the hypothesis that Jim Carrey is 'just a comedian'.
Yup, Harry potter. <3 Also Narnia. Because I love Fantasy stuff? And How to train your dragon has recently topped my list as a "great movie" too. I love the slight hinting at disabilities throughout- it was done nicely and not in a way that demeans people, but rather empowers them. Plus its just an adorable kids movie.
