Hi, may i suggest to have the old school ship travelling from vic to orbis or orbis to ludi etc please? I love it, maybe make it an option if players want to fast travel or this. Also, may i suggest to add anvil? I dont really remember its exact name but its like a transmutation item.
Boats are in the process of being implemented. Meanwhile, anvils will not be implemented. Do a search in the feedback forums and you will see multiple threads discussing this.
You still 'use' the ships. You just don't have to watch the travel anymore, though this will be changed in the future. You still go to the same ports you would before (Ellinia to Orbis to Ludi, etc.)
YAAAAAS QUEEEEN I love the ships, I've been missing them. I know a lot of people don't like them, but hey, they're like school. It sucks that you have to go to it, but you probably wouldn't have as many friends without it. :O MANDATORY SHIP HYPE!
Don't worry, it's not forced interaction. Some people prefer to AFK on the ship and then complain about it offering no good experiences.
There is no good reason for mandatory boat rides. None. Whatsoever. There are infinitely better places you can go to interact with people.
While I don't prefer, I've been on board (hehe) with time reductions before. Default times are 5 minutes at the station before departure (Of that, I think 4 minutes that people can actually get on the boat before the lady says "The boat is about to depart"?), and 10 minutes travel time. I personally feel 10 minutes maximum amount of time able to have waited is a bit too much of a reduction. The boat ride itself is 10 minutes, and the maximum amount of time you can possibly wait (That is if you just missed the ship) is 25 minutes, not 30. (There's two boats by the way; if one's docked at Ellinia, the other's docked at Orbis. Thinking there was 1 was confusing me.) So if you just missed the ship, you gotta wait 10 minutes for the other one to arrive, 5 minutes before departure, and another 10 to arrive. 25 minutes. If we reduced the overall maximum amount of time you can possibly wait to 10 minutes, that'd be 2 minute departures, and 4 minute rides... which isn't the worst, but is very puny. Ships would also be very lonely if the maximum time frame to collect passengers is that much severely reduced. Also killing Crimson Balrogs for 3rd job characters would be difficult to do with a 3 minute time frame (Takes like 1 minute for them to appear, allowing noobs to have time to hide). I don't know. Ludibrium ship times are at least better, which I would be OK with (Which is 15 minutes max waiting). Ideally I'd have it that Orbis ship's time is in-between the original default to Ludibrium's default, but right now I can't math.
As far as I know, boat rides won't be re-implemented until teleport rocks are as well (someone confirm me if this is not correct). So if you truly detest boat rides there will be a way to avoid them. At least that's what I believe that's what the Staff has said when boat rides were brought up in the past lol.
I disagree. Boat rides aren't necessarily a place you go to to socialize, your intent is still just to go from point A to point B. However the environment or situation of the ship rides creates the incentive to socialize; you're no longer busying yourself with something to not stop and talk to someone, goof around, and have fun in the shared situation of waiting. I feel like there's got to be a psychological name for it, because the same idea applies to quite a few situations. For example: losing power. You would never wish for this to happen, it's not really a good thing in and of itself. However the days that it does happen, you can find yourself having a particularly awesome day playing board games and talking with friends and family because you did not have the excuse to do anything else. I thought my school analogy fit pretty well, too. It's a weird kind of fun that only happens if you are put into a situation with others that you don't have a choice about, and does not work as soon as you do have that choice. If you try to force that kind of situation, it feels like just that; forced. You don't have the excuse to not busy yourself, and can't really enjoy the journey when you're knowingly limiting yourself from just skipping to the destination. It's kind of hard and weird to argue in favor of a generally negative thing in order to spawn good fun and value in it (I've had to do it many-a-times before in GMS whenever Nexon had made literally everything easier and more convenient). I know you didn't have good times on the ships for whatever reason (Hopefully for the sake of your argument not just because you went AFK), but I had a lot of great times on them. I probably met most of my friends on maple in Henesys and boat rides, getting those really nice dinging buddy requests as soon as the ride ended. I most definitely could not be opposed to that piece of nostalgia on a Nostalgic MapleStory server.
Oh I definitely had some good times on the ships, but I would trade never having to ride the ships ever for the handful of times it was actually fun. I never made any lasting friends from boat rides whereas I made lasting friends from doing pretty much everything else. What you're trying to describe is making the best of a bad situation, but I'd rather the bad situation never existed in the first place. But I don't have to defend my position here, I made a thread already and in the pages upon pages of replies it got there wasn't one good reason make boat rides mandatory.
