Because a lot of people dont play archmages and have trouble farming snow quickly it's incredibly frustrating to enter the map in an empty channel by accident, or to disconnect and lose your snow. It would be a bit more fun if 100 snow gives you the mitten, which you would lose at the moment you trade in your present, and that people wearing a mitten can freely enter and leave the event map. This way 100 snow guarantees exactly 1 present. I don't see any way this would be exploited, but reply if you see something wrong with this.
