As many of you saw the fion / murker scamming incident last nightish... whenever that was. (This thread is NOT NOT NOT to discuss what happened and what didn't happen.) It is clear that not all people online can be trusted. It has been this way since the dawn of the interwebs, and thus has creeped its way into our beloved community. This is why we must take extra steps to getting the information GM's need to actually be able to do something about these tragic crimes. Henceforth! A forum tab that has a sticky of how to format your proof of item borrowing on it would go something like this... Item Borrowing Format: Your username and the usernames of others involved in the item borrowing - ... Who is the owner of the items - ... Who is borrowing the items - ... Amount of time items are borrowed - ... Payment (if any) of Item borrowing service - ... SS of items IN THE OWNERS INVENTORY / EQUIPPED - (insert SS(s) here) SS of trade window with items in it with the following Trustworthy statement written and agreed by both parties: I (Borrower), Agree to Borrow the items in this trade window for (X Time Amount), Pay the service fee of [X Service Fee(if any)] to (Owner of items), And return the items 100% UNCHANGED from the condition they were lent to the Borrower. I.E. No Slot changes, Exchanges, Squishy Liquid on Gear, etc. If the borrower does not agree to these terms, they are committing a scam, and are subject to be penalized to the digression of the Staff of MapleRoyals. Something similar to that format will help people not be a victim to scams, but it also provides people with gear that they would like to lend out to others a service in which they can safely lend out items. This forum would NOT have people saying : Trying to borrow yada yada gear... Only people with the gear to lend out and ones lending gear and borrowing gear to post their proof of items being lended. As much work as this might be for gms to sort out, it is only a suggestion in which i'd like people to discuss. Not trying to make GM's More busy =P If this doesn't happen, atleast people can look at this later and have a safe way to lend items, and a convenient way for GM's to handle scams that happen with actual proof vs. the he said she said tango. #Discuss
I think you should just be more careful who you trust. In my 8-9 years of mapling I've never had an issue once when I borrowed out items or let other people on my acc (No, not on this server).
True, I have never had this happen to me either, but in the event that it does, there would be a sort of "back up" plan if something were to go wrong with people lending items. And GM's would have enough information to address each situation in the proper manner.
The problem with this is that if you're lending a significant item to a friend, you won't feel the need to post such a form anyways, and doing so actually shows distrust between friends.
This. The staff should not have the additional burden of babysitting and keeping track of who lent who items.
I still dont understand the major difference between fion's case and this http://royals.ms/forum/threads/scg-manual-scamming.15514/ You could say it was Bruuh's choice to trust DazH, and that he willingly traded him the items, leaving the burden on him. Both of them had traded items on conditions that were not met. Both of them got scammed a SCG so why then did the staff intervene with bruuh, but not with fion?
In Bruuh's case, there was an agreement made for a trade of services. The guilty party would make the SCG in exchange for Bruuh's payment. Since the person did not deliver on the services they claimed to provide, they were committing fraud and were therefore scamming This case there was no exchange of services. The item was just given to the other party.
...on the terms it would be given back. How is that not scamming? So if the guy had rented the glove from fion for 8 mesos an hour, and never returned it, would action have been taken? What if his services was showing fion how much damage he would do with it? Either way it wasn't a gift, it was lent on the condition it would be returned
Without any proof nobody here is in the position to claim that it was not a gift, The only ones who could have had proof of this were Fion and Murker, where we know that Fion has claimed to have no proof. In that situation nobody here can tell what has been or what has not been said during the trade agreement.
Bruuh included screenshots showing the terms of the trade and the fact that it was agreed upon by both parties. The report on Murker did not include such screenshots. It is just as easy for Murker to come in and say "He never lent it to me, he gave it to me to keep!" If there were screenshots showing it was loaned to Murker and Murker agreed it was to be returned to the OP by a certain time or date or at the OP's request and Murker didn't honor that, then he would be scamming as well.
You're right if you only read the first post.. murker could have said that but he didnt. He admitted to taking it multiple times, said he would give it back, then publicly gave it away, saying it was because of everyone supporting fion.. You originally said there was nothing you could do because there was no evidence, but then everyone jumped in on that thread showing screenshots of him admitting to it, someone said they pm'd you more info, there was definitely enough to act on... then you changed to "GMs do not get involved in a situation like this", not explaining your decision to the people pointing out that there was now evidence
