I'll try to keep it short, but the title should be pretty self explanatory. I have no idea what's scheduled after the on-going event ends, but please don't make another Event that requires global participation (ex. Snowman and King Slime). The Christmas event had a pretty big impact on the economy of the server, giving items as godly as the Red Sock, and there were plenty of people who simply didn't get a chance to participate due to it. The Slime King event is similar, though many, if not all, of the items can't be profitable to the same extent (the ring is untradeable, the rest among the popular rewards such as the Coin Sword, Red Envelopes and the various chairs are pocket money in comparison to the Red Sock). And that's not even the main point of my post. Since the snowblower could blow up at any point in time, it was pretty much impossible to plan doing anything else in the game that required you to stay connected. Zakum, Krexel, Horntail runs constantly had to be assisted with rewarps and refunds, even people that would grind at popular spots would be unfortunate to lose their map due to the server wide lag spikes the event caused. It was always a gamble to make boss expeditions, and most of the time it ended in misfortune. Slime King at least has a cool-down on the spawn so it's a little easier to plan smaller runs, but Horntail most often still requires a scheduled time and date, and thus still suffers. Also, I know the spawn of the event bosses does not directly cause the freezes, server crashes and mass disconnects, but they indirectly do, because of what happens next, or before. People in masses changing channels simultaneously, 200 players trying to access the same NPC simultaneously, so I would not like to hear a Staff member dismissing my statement and claim that the events work. They do, but they still indirectly cause problems. I also know they are not the cause of ALL server issues, but by not making another similar event in the future, it at least eliminates one of the issues. I don't want to leave it unsaid. I love all forms of events, it makes for a fun change in game play, but they are not worth the downtime, in my opinion. If I remember correctly, the event of March last year were nothing more than a Chair Scavenger Hunt, where people didn't have to assemble in one place and help each other kill a boss for a reward, it was time and dedication invested in farming monsters throughout Maple World for Chairs. This type of event would not cause the same issues as Slime and Snowman has in the past. If you still want to throw in a rare item as a reward (Pilgrim's Hat, Rudolph's Shiny nose etc), that would work out too. But personally, I just want a rest from any form of events for a while, excluding GM events. While they're still fun, I'd prefer the extra uptime over cute/rare/special items any day of the week. TL; DR: No more events. Well fudge, it wasn't short at all. Oh well
Sorry for the unrelated reply but what stats did the christmas socks have? I think it's kinda unfair for events like these to give out items for a limited time that give OP stats. That's just my opinion though. But yes I agree with your post
Agreed, although my reasoning behind it is that it often causes massive lag on my computer to the point where I cannot even participate. I know for a fact I'm not the only person with this problem
While the downtime has been rather small imo, especially the last week, I still think we've got too many events going on concurrently. Wish tickets AND envelopes AND slime, after just having done the nevermelt snow AND snowman, after just having done the pies, after just having done the candies.... seems as if they're increasingly becoming the most important part of gameplay. I still love participating in them, and appreciate the work that's been put in to having them.... but I suppose I'm saying just chill, for the next month or so. The red sock was 1 atk 7 slots. It wasn't by any means an item you cant live without, but it did have the potential to be better than facestompers. That's a common trend with event items. There are also earrings from the last anniversary that are the best for their slot. The pilgrim hat is worse than a zhelm clean but has the potential to be better. There is a pendant out there that was better than dep star, but I dont remember how it stacks up with HTP. Last anniversary gave out pyrope maple weapons. people that played pre-wipe have an extra ring that gives 1 atk and some stats. Rudolph nose has the potential to be the best face accessory, etc. etc. I dont think it's at all unfair. You can get along perfectly fine without these items, but people who have been playing longer and put more time into the events have items that are slightly better than others. Keep playing, and participating in the next event and some day you'll have them as well.
They aren't. The items from this christmas and halloween were different. As far as I remember there was no thanksgiving event at all last year. While the items continue to be different, the fact that they're still potentially better (but not definitely) than other items for their slots means you'll get there eventually. If you're going to argue that old event items are bad, you might as well argue that people who paid lower prices to perf weapons with white scrolls (they used to be under 100m each) is wrong as well, and that's just a foolish arguement.
Yes I know I played back then. But the items back then were 100% cosmetic or gave shit stats. What I mean is if they choose to implement an item with good stats, like this year, that they continue that trend for the next year so that new players still have the opportunity to get them.
FS can be better than the socks. Leaf can be better than the rudolph nose. I feel like they kinda messed up with this ring. It goes in a slot that has no alternative. But that's a topic for discussion elsewhere.
This was probably my favorite event, and I don't even love chairs that much. There were farming parties and everything and also for the tradable chairs my friends and I would just farm in one area for a long time and exchange them among one another in order to get all 20+ chairs. The skype calls that arose from this were literally the best.
I suppose I've just always thought that Maple events that punish those who didn't play during a certain time were stupid. I don't mind if they're yearly but if it's a one and done type of event I don't think it's fair to new players. But hey, just my opinion. I'm sure a lot of people don't mind it but a majority of those people are the one's that are able to attend all of those events and ultimately end up benefiting from them. It's easy to look the other way when you're in that position.
I wouldn't call it punish new players, I mean the ring is good but it's less than 1.5 extra attack in range and some hp I wouldn't call that game breaking. I can't even tell if my damage decrease without the ring.
The primary reason we have had so many events back to back is because this time of year there's holidays back to back. Now that we're edging into spring, all that would be coming up any time soon could possibly be easter (has not been talked about among staff) and anniversary. We're working to get the source that Kevin is working on out as soon as humanly possible - but making sure it's done right. I think it's safe to say that we're all a bit burnt out on events - there's a lot of planning for them too on our side and we're constantly trying to help fix up any things that come up after the event.
The server re-launched (wipe) last year with the Halloween event to start, and it lasted right until the Christmas event I believe. I wasn't around for long pre-wipe, but they held an event before my time, during the summer where you had to make an I/L or F/P mage to level 100 without acquiring 3rd job (unsure of details but it was something similar) within a few weeks time and you were rewarded a godly face accessory. Events are supposedly seasonal for a reason, if you miss it you might luck out. I'm not saying they shouldn't include similar items in events, but the possibility to get them should be somewhat equal for everyone who wants to. I did like A LOT of snowmen, even though I never got a Red Sock, I can't imagine how the people who never even got a chance to participate must have felt. Sure, there's always the possibility to buy them, but not everyone has that option.
Speaking of events, has Royals ever tried having an event boss like Snowman and Slime in all channels? With nerfed RNG and HP of course. That might be able to fix the d/c issue. Only did Snowman once. It's just a shoe to me.
