Can you provide more details on what do you mean by "doesn't allow hp washing and afk leech"? What will be implemented in the 2nd world that will stop those Edit: won't be asking for details anymore
I feel that kind of solution is really forceful though since partying is part of how we make friends/buddies It does solve the leeching issue
That would make party grinding impossible as well. I think it would be better to have an "afk" timer where if you don't move for a certain amount of time. Also might not be a good idea considering how it would drastically reduce the player base in the "normal" world
Then maybe cap the level difference between players in party to receive exp? Just to clarify, I don't care about leeching, just want to discuss the idea
Can I just point out that hp washing and leeching is NOT compulsory. You can play as per normal like you did in 2006. If you want to wash, go ahead. If you want to leech, go ahead. If others wash, that's their problem, they're paying for it. If others leech, that's their problem too.
this is being discussed over and over again so many times, hp washing is not a requirement but it is mandatory if you want to enjoy every aspect of the game, leeching is not required but is more efficient, play the way you want to play, no one forces you to anything, i will not ignore the fact that leeching does hurt the socialism aspect on the community, because grinding exist for the smaller portion of us, but that is your own choice to make too, if you want to grind you will find people to grind with, i can assure you. as for new world, yes you could theoretically make some next level plan with a world where bosses do less damage and strict party requirements to reduce leeching efficiency but it will split the community and the feeling of popularity that drives everyone into playing royals will be gone. i could expand in details about what in my opinion are the pros and cons of each "problem", but i already did that in the past, and many other players did too, and the bottom line for me is, that the outcomes of the cons that all of the problems have are not negative enough to be worthy of such a drastic change like a new world or a server wipe.
Over the course of 4 years I spent in royals, I saw the rise and fall of many neighbor servers. Many saw this discomfort zone of royals (leeching/hp washing) as an opportunity to attract our player base, especially after the new source syndrome. One of those servers was created by ex-staffs of royals with seemingly perfect solutions that satisfied the complaining voices in royals. Many moved out to try out these "new worlds" but the hype didn't last long. Many of us thought making changes to satisfy the majority's demands would lead to a better and more popular server but the reality was harsh. Many of these new servers satisfied the player base with the absence of hp washing and leeching - even limiting multi-clienting. People were happy but the hype didn't go on. Many newbies visit p-servers in search of nostalgia. However, nostalgia doesn't make you stay. The community and competitive nature of servers are the main factors that make steady clients who maintain the 1.5k+ online player count. There are exceptions but only a minority of the player base enjoy nostalgic content in a non-competitive way. I agree that leeching isn't the healthiest way to play the game but it allows people with extra effort to excel above others (along with HP washing), fulfilling that competitive desire (I would still urge staff to reduce the party exp ratio to nerf leeching). As much as they discourage light-hearted newbies to quit over the disappointment of late-discovery, they provide the driving power for the hard-working players. When you take this aspect away, the server becomes a happy place with an equilibrium between players but everyone gets bored pretty soon. Although there were numerous other reasons, I saw this as the main cause of those servers' downfall. Both royals and 2nd server on Gtop ranking share the same competitive nature. This proves why HP washing and leeching are considered "necessary evil". Efforts were made to discourage them but taking them away completely in a new world will only provide momentary satisfaction with a bleak future. A neighbor server with excellent developing skills did come up with this exact idea and implemented their so-called "new world". The last thing I heard from them was a halved or quartered player base count.
To be fair those servers failed not because of changes to their leeching/washing mechanics but mostly because they lacked the critical mass of players needed in order to sustain the server. That said, I've been playing on private servers on and off since the day they began with OdinMS, and I completely agree that I've seen many giant servers crumble by establishing multiple worlds in an attempt to please everyone. Not only does it fundamentally fracture the community that literally holds a server together, it also effectively doubles much of the workload required to maintain a server--balance, events, rule enforcement, back-end maintenance, what have you. Even here, many players point to the playerbase size as one of the primary reasons they joined the server. That sure was the reason for me four years ago. I've seen this exact suggestion time and time again throughout these forums and I'll say the same thing every time: a new world is an objectively bad idea.
Very interesting thought project; I wonder if creating a new world would attract enough population to emulate the social dynamics that mapleroyals already has though.
On an individual level it’s something I’d play in a heart beat + Royals - Hp Washing/Leech is a server niche that doesn’t currently exists. A lot of the servers who change those issues also add other custom garbage that I’m not interested in, are fully v83 or to high rate. I seriously doubt it would be good for the server as a whole though,
