I'd like to get some feedback on what people would think if transportation was introduced.

At the moment you can get from one side of the Maple world to the other within a few minutes, which isn't very realistic at all, and gets rid of the need of Teleport and VIP Rocks (which do work).

In my opinion having to actually use boats and trains to get to the other continents in MapleStory is quite a nostalgic feature. And with this server trying to be 'nostalgic', then I highly believe they should be added.

    Thoughts? Be constructive please...

To be honest, there are certain elements of this server that do not completely follow along with the whole idea of "nostalgia," and I'm ok with that. I mean come on, you want to add in custom NX items, chairs, and maps, but having instant transport kills nostalgia? Just seems like one of those things better left how it is now.

I don't think Matt meant that having zero travel time KILLS nostalgia, I think what he meant was that the rides themselves were a pretty fun part of maplestory back in the day so it would be nice and nostalgic if it was reintroduced.

I do think that it is a good idea in theory because, normally it would be a great way to meet people or just fool around and chat before you all go your separate ways when the boat lands. But for a private server, it isn't really a smart thing to do because there won't be a boatfull of random strangers trying to get from Ellinia to Orbis. Pretty sure 9 times out of 10 you'll find yourself alone for 10 minutes on a huge ship, just standing on the crows nest reevaluating life. And that is 10 minutes of life reevaluation that I do not need. Maybe if this server had 500 people on at any given time (lol) it would be cool to implement this. Otherwise, its just too much of a hassle.

    Pros:
    -More of Nostalgic feel
-MAKE NEW FRIENDS while on ship!
-Fight Crimson Barlog~~HELLA FUN(Not sure if you could fight it right now)
    -Possibly Play Minigames.

    Cons:
    - The game will be much more time-consuming and taxing to play.
    - Cross-Continent travel will not be used by some people just because they hate rides.
    - Not able to do some quests as quickly
    - Leveling up at the desired map now harder(if on a different continent)
    - Most of the time, there is not enough people and you are on the ship alone.~f4

Ultimately, this will not improve the flow of the game and will slow down the leveling process, economy, and wealth of the players. Traveling alone can be alleviated through going to channel 1, but sometimes this isn't enough to meet somebody. Best thing that can happen is the Crimson Barlog.

I suggest, when traveling to closer continents, like NLC and singapore, the time traveled be reduced by half if this is implemented. This addition is okay to be added (if the server grows a little bit more?) and will not affect the gameplay too much; only more time consuming.

The only transportation I'd particularly want introducted is an optional boat ride to Orbis - for the Maple History Book quest (and the other quests for which this is a prerequisite) and for Crimson Balrog.

I don't feel strongly one way or the other about any of the other rides. They'd be fun to do once or twice for nostalgia, but otherwise, they're just time-consuming. The social aspect of ships isn't something relevant for me, as I prefer to go afk on rides and go make a coffee or feed the cat or something.

Depending on the amount and difficulty of coding work involved, I think optional rides would be the ideal, but this might be a lot of effort on the part of the coding team for relatively minimal gain.

Personally, I'd mainly use (VIP) Teleport Rocks (the regular teleport rocks don't work) for getting to annoyingly out-of-the-way maps anyway, rather than for intercontinental teleportation.

Boat rides were fun when there were thousands of people playing and people to ride the boat with you ):

If it was optional, I really don't feel anyone would really spend the extra 15 minutes just to be a little more social. They would chat in the FM. No optional either implement or no. Hardly anyone would use it if it was optional :))

Agreed. Adding it here would be a major frustration -- Also many of us do not have to time to spend 30 minutes traveling. This would only be fun if there were people on pretty much every map.

She's not saying to make them optional for social gain, she's saying make them optional so we can ride them once or twice for nostalgia's sake.

Optional should probably have a higher meso cost then?

If I were making my own Maple server from scratch, I'd do it as follows:

Orbis <-> Ellinia: mandatory boat ride, 5 minute duration (instead of 10 minutes as in official Maple). Ship takes off every 10 minutes (instead of 15). Players can enter ship at the last second, instead of having to board ship 5 minutes prior.

Orbis <-> Ludi: boat ride, 2 minute duration, non-scheduled (boat takes off as soon as you click on NPC)

Orbis <-> other towns: same as Ludi

With instant transportation, things like Leafre magic seeds and Omega warp cards become meaningless.

However for Royals, people are already used to instant transportation so making mandatory boat rides is going to piss them off. And since people are already pissed off from the server wipe, I would not recommend doing it at this time. Maybe in a few months when people are happier. Also maybe phase it in gradually, starting with the Ellinia-Orbis ride.

Orbis -> Mu Lung took 1 minute if I'm not mistaken in the official servers, so why it should take 2 minutes in your suggestion is beyond my understanding.

The waiting times had a purpose in the official servers; some people being stuck on boats, or waiting for them, made the world less crowded. [thus reducing KSing, making PQs less crowded, etc]

In a server that's currently struggling to have a 100 people online I don't see why this is necessary to implement at all. Also - if it's about nostalgia - why tamper with the waiting times? Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it?

Personally, I always hated the boat rides (except the odd get-togethers with friends way back when to try to kill the balrog(s)). All they do is waste your time. Implement an optional boat ride from Ellinia to Orbis so that people can do the quests and kill the balrogs, but that's it.

Really? Where can I travel by boat from Ellinia to Leafre in one go? And where is this Lego ship that takes me from Ludi to Omega?

No. Either implement it, or don't.

Matt you can always do so it get choose able.
Like we can choose to ride the boats or just skip it, since I know only way to fight crimson balrogs are throught the ellinia - orbis boat.

also one of the maple history books (for the quest) are in there.

    Idea:

Instant ride costs a large amount of mesos (500k? 1m? I'm unfamiliar with the current economy here)

Oldschool GMS-like ride will only cost you 5k (the normal amount?)

Omega warp cards are already meaningless since they don't work lol.

Yeah. If boat rides get implemented, we should keep the ability to transport instantly, for a higher price. To me, it shouldn't be costing more than 300~500k in total to go from Ellinia to, let's say, ludi or ariant.

This might be very offputting for new players who don't have much money yet and who have come from another PS where transport is instant.

As for myself, if it's a straight choice between no transportation (except optional Ellinia-Orbis boat for quests/C.Rog) and instant transportation costing over 100k, I'd far rather have no transportation.

There's no reason to have a 10 minute boat ride just to go from Ellinia to Orbis. From what I've seen, the only people that are die hard about this idea are the one that want the Chief Stan's Hat.

I ,for one, think this is useless and the instant teleport should stay as is. If you want to ride the boat, it should be optional.

Okay can we turn the discussion towards the cost of an instant teleport should be compared to using the transportation.... 25k, 50k, 100k, 250k?

I think we should have the content in the game if it works...
