If you're making a Hero, make your goal 30k. It's not that expensive and if you already have some prior funding, you won't need any base Int.

First of all, you do not need to hp wash. It makes life easier, but it is not necessary. Secondly, 2 handed swords are much better end game because of bossing. Anytime you use a heartstopper or better, which you should be at bosses, a two handed sword will definitely be better than a 1handed + shield due to atk multipliers.

You don't need to HP wash. HP washing is most valuable for a Spearman (to-be Dark Knight). For more information about HP washing, you should probably try to find some good guide on this forum, but I'll give you some quick info. You don't need to start adding HP at a certain level, you don't even need to start early, unless you need 30K HP at Lv.35 to survive Alishar in LPQ. What can be a good idea, though, is to start early wearing some INT-boosting equips while leveling up. This will help you regain the MP you loose from HP washing (should maybe be called MP washing, since it's the MP that's "washed" away, but whatever). A spearman loses 4 base MP for every AP-reset used.

About weapons: Pages (to-be Paladins) use Sword or Blunt weapons, both eigher one- or two-handed.
Fighters (to-be Heroes) use Sword or Axe, both eigher one- or two-handed.
Spearmen (to-be Dark Knights) use Polearm or Spear, both of which are always two-handed (meaning no shield)

For information about advantages and disadvantages to each of these weapons, I suggest you try and find some specific warrior-class' guide.
The coice of weapon will in the end boil down to personal preference.

    Hope that's any help :)
