    The server is currently offline due to the database no longer saving player progress and the ability for items to be duped. Obviously, the server needed to be shut down and the database will be rolled back to when the server was brought back online a few hours prior to this most recent shutdown.

    As I write this, Kevin had just gone to bed an hour prior to the shutdown after not sleeping for (I'm guessing) close to 27 hours, busy trying to fix things and keep the server up for all of us to play. I know this is frustrating, but we need to wait on Kevin's return to get things back in working order. I am taking a complete shot in the dark, but I would not expect the server up any earlier than 2200 server time. Again, that is not even an estimate, just a ballpark range factoring in time for a person to sleep, wake up, and hopefully quickly iron out the issue and get us back online.

    Thank you all for your extreme patience. I know this is annoying for all of you, and it's just as annoying for us on staff to have to deal with. As I was telling some in the shoutbox, I hope those who have been online during our brief uptimes have noticed how much faster everything runs in this new source. To give you an idea of how more efficient Kevin's code is, after an hour of uptime with our hundreds of players online, old source would be consuming multiple GBs of RAM. In comparison, Kevin's was only using 660MB of RAM. Kevin has truly done great things with this code, I just hope you all will help us see things through and be able to truly enjoy all that this amazing code source can eventually provide to this wonderful community.

    at this point you guys should just do a week long patch and just fix EVERYTHING for the new source. ALL THE BUGS and fix ALL THE NOT WORKING PQ's so we can just get back online and enjoy the new source to its fullest that sounds way better than changing the uptime every time. just take your time and fix everythingg please.

    Why would they do it if they can stil work on some fixes while the server is up and running ? Daily server checks sounds way better than 1 week (might even take longer) shut down imo.

    I'm sure they're only finding bugs because of thousands of people running around doing stuff in game.

    Even tho it was just around 20 minutes for me, i could really tell the difference in how sharp and responsive everything was compare to old source :3 looking forward how will this feel when grinding or bossing.

    Exactly this. Something I forgot to mention in my post is we posed the question to Kevin as to why we are only seeing these crashes/deadlocks with a mass load of people. Here is what Kevin told us in passing while he was looking at the code, "Because bugs like these usually pop up when functions are being called very rapidly, something we don't quite see on Tespia. It's all about the timing between when functions get called that triggers it - with correct locking though, that timing won't matter (To make that even simpler - the current freeze was due to a deadlock in how maps remove characters from the map, we would need a TON of players entering/leaving the same map for it to come up again)"

    In fact one of the freeze issues that we saw was due to locking, but it was because the server was disconnecting someone at the same moment someone else was entering the map. It takes a lot of work to synchronize tons of clients and the server. While a lot of sources and private servers (heck even our old source) already did that to an extent, it's hard to do it well, efficiently, and with the volume of players online that Royals always has. I earnestly believe that these improvements will become more apparent as time goes on, we just all need to have the patience to work through these bumps until we get to that point.

    As an additional update, we are attempting to replicate the glitch that was causing duping so that when Kevin returns, he knows immediately where to start looking in the code to fix it. That's all I got for now, but hopefully more good news can be shared with you throughout the course of the day :)

    I see what your saying here they deffinetly need players online to brjng out the bugs but it seems like there is absolutely no progress with all the different uptimes and etc also it would kill the hype of new source if they had to fix and implement the pq's through server checks later on imo they should fix up the new source conppetely and once the server is up they can do daily sc for bugs.

    Maybe you were not online when the server is back up running or whatever it is. I have been online when the server was back online earlier on and I personally found a few bugs/problems that I had reported to the GMs. The aim as of now is to have a stable server running.

    Haven't been able to log on once since they have been up lol
    Takes like 20 times to load maple because of incorrect parameter.
    Then 3 times in a row, each time I select char. Account got stuck :p

    Good news! Kevin is awake and believes he has already fixed the duping issue as well as the issue where guild/party chat randomly stopped working. Stay tuned for more updates

    Update again. Currently Kevin and Matt are looking into a converter issue which resulted in some people's items not being transferred over correctly from the old database. Once that is sorted, as we had said earlier, the database will be rolled back to rid the server of any dupes that occurred by running the converter script to convert the old source database to the new source database.

    According to Kevin's logs of previous conversions, the process takes about 4.5 hours, followed by about an hour to upload the final product to the server. Therefore, we're looking at at least another 7 hours of downtime from this moment. That would bring us to about 0200 GMT (server time) for coming back online. That is not an official time of us coming online, but rather the best estimate we can possibly provide right now so everyone knows where we are in terms of progress. So get cozy in the shoutbox, play your games, watch Netflix, listen to music, and enjoy your weekend!

    Even if they took it down for a week it wouldn't matter since they would still get some of the same bugs without the user's help. Did you know that the GMs were in the server testing each thing but when they made the server online for users the server suddenly froze and crashed? They wouldn't be able to find that bug and fix it in a week unless they found the bug which wouldn't have happened if 400+ people didn't log on and crash the server. Also by the way buddy, they stated what they fixed in the server updates #1 and #2. It looks like your only focused on certain things that aren't fix and saying everything isn't fixed :(. Sorry but they are actually fixing bugs and doing a great job telling us (if you actually read their announcements). The reason why there are so many downtimes is because Kevin is working out the problem on server stability for 400+ people. If he can't do that and fix all the bugs you want, the server would still be down until he has users like us log on and test it for him. Nothing in coding is actually perfect beta, they have to be tested to see if it works.
