There are many shops in the main FM rooms with a potion inside priced at a crazy price and thats it. I find that that shouldent be allowed if you are going to put up a shop in one of the main fm rooms with potion inside just to keep it open incase you want to use the shop later that we should be able to call a gm and they close the shop so that someone with stuff to sell can actually use it. Anyone else have any thoughts?
Nothing wrong with spot holders tbh. I often do this myself after a server check. Get my store up, put something in and then scoop FM. When im done I'm updating my store.
Holding your spot is ok if its only for a little while. Me and my boyfriend do this when the server resets and were somewhere with my laptop i will log in and grab a spot and put an item in for 99999999 then log out and let him on and he will grab a spot set up his shop and ill set up my shop after, nothing wrong with that. Im talking about all day they never set up there shop, they leave 1 item in it and take up space when someone all the way in fm 9 could be putting good use to a fm 1 spot.
First come first serve is pretty much always how it has been. Sometimes people do it just to hold the spot for future items they'll want to put in, or maybe they just have to find prices first. Who knows, it's kind of unfair to police what someone does or doesn't put in their shop.
You can put an item for 1 meso, it doesn't matter. The shop doesn't disappear if you buy it out, the owner has to organize it and leave it completely empty for it to disappear. Secondly, I don't mind this kind of space waste, but what really grinds my gears are people that make their shop FAT, meaning they take up 2 spots with one merchant.
First come first serves is great and all but only when the spot is being used and not just taken just because they got it. If you get a prime spot and slap one item in it for no reason and don't actually use it you should forfeit your spot or don't even put on up at all if you're not going to bother coming back within a couple of hours to actually stock it properly.
I think people are perfectly entitled to put a placeholder item in their shop when they first set it up - in fact, I've usually recommended to players that they do so in order to reduce the likelihood of someone else setting up a store directly on top of theirs and making one or the other store inaccesible. (This may be outdated now that Gi has done a fix to avoid overlapping stores.) It does get on my nerves a bit when people leave their store like that for ages, though. When I was hunting for candles the other day on my legit, I came across 5 stores in a row that all had placeholder items, and yea, it felt like wasted space and a let-down, because I was hoping to find something in those stores. Having said that, I don't think it should be a matter for staff intervention. It isn't against any kind of rules, and if somebody isn't selling anything, they aren't going to make a profit, so they're not doing themselves any favours, really. What Vic is saying about people making their stores fat reminds me of a player dispute I successfully helped settle. IIRC, they'd ended up with their stores stacked on the one spot above the door, so I suggested that instead of arguing whose space it was, they could put their stores side by side and both get the benefit of the door spot, which they did.
I like how Dan Likes this. then if that's the issue why don't the GMs program the server to auto place stores? make like a grid they snap into. if it fails, no spot left, the store gets cancelled, items refunded to fred and player notified in some way. (msg box)
