I have a 2015 Macbook Air, and I've been playing this game through Parallels. There's 2 main connection issues that I've been experiencing: All my clients disconnect within the first 5-20 minutes of opening the 1st client. I have a sizeable chance of DCing at Zakum when entering the map. More details in spoilers below. Spoiler: Issue 1 - All my client(s) simultaneously disconnect within the first 5-20 minutes of being opened, regardless of what I'm doing - On Windows XP, I get the "server check" message where all the client(s) close and I have to re-open them - On Windows 7, I get booted to the login screen with the "unable to connect message" on all client(s), but they don't close - This happens at a near 100% rate - But after I re-open my client(s) (or re-login if it's Windows 7), I experience no further DCs—until I close them all and start them up later If this description is not clear, I can try to record a video to illustrate what's going on. For example, a typical day: - I wake up, open the game, do whatever I gotta do - At a random moment within the first 5 to 20 minutes, all my clients simultaneously crash - I shake my head, re-open them, and get to play without DCing for the most part (unless I go to Zak lol—see issue 2) - After a while, I close my clients, shut off my laptop, and go to work - I come back 12 hours later, open up the game, and bam, within 5-20 minutes all my clients simultaneously crash - I sigh, re-open them, and wonder what I've done to enrage the Maple gods - I play (without DCing for the most part) until my eyelids get droopy, a sign that I should go to bed - I close my clients and hop into bed and drift off to sleep in fetal position, holding on to the faint hope that someday, in some universe, I'll be able to enjoy a seamless MapleRoyals experience Sorry for the dramatization but this issue has got me slowly going mental. Spoiler: Issue 2 + VIDEO - The video shows an instance where all 3 of my characters DC when entering the map. Most of the times, I only DC on 1 or 2 characters - I have also DC'd before from having just 2 clients open - Small sample size, but my DC rate for 2 clients is 22% (2/9). For 3 clients it's 67% (8/12). These samples also include instances when I'm entering on just 1 character (the other characters are at another map doing something else) - Bottom line, I have never been able to consistently enter Zakum; my friends who use Macs with similar setup don't experience this problem - This issue has only occurred in the New Source. I had the same computer and setup in the Old Source and had no issues Below is everything I've tried so far (and thank you @GodlyBread @Buccaneer and @Shiyui for throwing out some of these suggestions and helping me troubleshoot—I really appreciate it). - Re-downloading and reinstalling the game - Using different versions of Parallels, including Parallels 13 from the official website - Trying both Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and Windows 7 - Running on every possible compatibility mode - Allowing MapleRoyals as an exception in Windows Firewall - Adjusting my screen resolution - Closing all other programs in the background - Resetting winsock and flushing DNS - Changing the MTU from 1500 to 1458 - Performing a clean boot If anyone has any other ideas, fixes, or even leads as to what might be wrong, please let me know—I'll be forever indebted to you.
Geez that's crazy Dave... I have a few ideas you haven't tried though! Try to install Razer Game Booster. I use this freeware program to automatically convert my Parallels virtual machine to optimize gaming. In a single click, it does several performance tweaks including simplifying the system graphics so I have significantly less chance of lag when watching YouTube on the side. Also, try running all your clients in fullscreen, within your Parallels. I notice that I'll lag with two window mode clients and I honestly don't lag at all with seven clients all in fullscreen. Alt tab on my Windows 7 cycles forward in my open windows, so it's convenient for farming! Use VMware Fusion to make Windows XP SP 3, and, if that doesn't work, Windows 7 virtual machines. I had an issue with Parallels 11 many months ago where I couldn't load the virtual machine, so I torrented VMware Fusion. It is able to import your Parallels virtual machine file and convert it, quite fast actually, into a VMware Fusion virtual machine. VMware has noticeable key input delay and touchpad mouse delay, but it may be very helpful if you can run Zak reliably on it. Use Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows XP SP 3 and, if that doesn't work, Windows 7 on your Mac. It's possible that the issue is not with Parallels but with your computer's CPU. Every now and then, I'll open a single link on my Google Chrome browser and I dc on all six clients on Parallels. For me, a simple reboot to make my computer stop overthinking fixes it. But you'll probably notice in Activity Monitor that Parallels takes up a lot of CPU. So reducing that load by playing on a normally installed Windows OS may fix your problem. Hope it works out for you!!
