I should start off with a disclaimer that I'm not actually planning on making a character right now, so I suppose this isn't urgent. However, if I'm sufficiently inspired or decide to later on (the latter is very likely, the former decently likely), I think this might be helpful. I'm also genuinely curious which class would be the best fit for me. That being said, I have a few things I'd like to see in a class. I'm quite aware that having all of these fit the class is unlikely, so I'll just ask you to tell me which of the listed aspects it has and which one it doesn't. (For example, if I asked for High MP and early-set high damage, a suggestion might include a cleric and list "attributes" as high mp and "non-attributes" as early-set high damage.) This isn't really necessary since I know that specific thing would be a lot of effort but It'd be highly appreciated. Another note that many of these may be contradictory or don't seem likely together. Like I said, I'm just curious which classes fit the most of these attributes. Below are the attributes I'd like in a class. Items marked with an asterisk (*) are the most important. The marker (1/2*) means that it's more important than the others but not super, super important. Cheap* No bossing 'required' or 'highly suggested' at any level* Generally not complicated or intense to play* Has a good guide on the forums (maple royals forums, as the server's set up is too specific to use non-specific maple royals guides) 1/2* Blunt, non-skill requiring damage (i.e. just whack at things to hit them, no major skills) Not requiring major focus or dedication during training 1/2* Not truly 'requiring' leech at most levels Flashy skills that genuinely look cool (definitely not a major focus, please dont pick a class solely based on this, although its definitely a plus) Fun to play Good mix of exp from parties to grinding (ideally, it tends to switch between the two every 10 or 20 levels, towards the higher end if the levels are fast. I tend to get sick of solo grinding and partying if done too much at one time) No HP washing* Possibly more to be added because I can't think of things even though I'm sure there's more. Are there any classes that fit a few of these, especially at east 2/3 of the asterisked points? Thanks guys.
Haha, hey Max. Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me which of the attributes fit into the descrip. of Archmage?
Cheap* - imo mages are cheaper than attacking classes, since chaosing pac/shoes and perfecting weapon costs billions. also skillbooks for archmages are cheaper than skillboks for bishops No bossing 'required' or 'highly suggested' at any level* - you don't need to boss, and archmages are obv discriminated anyway, despite their decent damage Generally not complicated or intense to play* - 2nd job as an i/l is fun and really fast, best aoe 2nd job skill imo, 3rd job is decent too when you max core skills Has a good guide on the forums - Plenty's guide for i/l and GoodDoodoo for f/p Blunt, non-skill requiring damage (i.e. just whack at things to hit them, no major skills) - yeah Not requiring major focus or dedication during training 1/2* - you got aoe with every job, it's fast and fun you also freeze mobs so they wont hit you Not truly 'requiring' leech at most levels - well i leeched 75-90 and 95-120 only because i had money to do it, but since you do a decent damage and got lots of aoe skills you can grind as well Flashy skills that genuinely look cool - i love i/l skills tho i admit f/p mages skills look even better (i made a f/p on gms only because how awesome explosion looks) Fun to play - im definitely having more fun than playing my bowmaster, archmages are great mobbers so i do a lot of quests when i get bored, i level up when i want to and i dont need to spend hours on krexel in order to do so Good mix of exp from parties to grinding - oblivion 4 with other archmage or anyone with hs is the best exp in game, duo skeles works to, and if i feel like grinding alone i just go petris. you can easily get a hser as an archmage too, since everyone loves free leech... (i guess you can get priests to pay you as well if you're dead broke) also archmages are doing more damage with blizz/meteor, so you can 1hit mobs faster and got different locations to grind
Half of your attributes are subjective and varies from player to player. All classes are expensive and the cost evens out near the end if you're talking about decent/godly gear. From the looks of your suggestions, any mage fits your criterias if you're okay with spamming just one skill and the only skill portion of training is trying to get as much coverage as possible.
Actually, going to add one up there now that someone mentioned it - I'd really awfully hate to HP wash. I doubt that Archmages need that, but just as a note. So far I mostly seem to be getting archbishop as suggestions... hm.
It looks like you are definitely going to be a good fit a Cleric or Magician of some sorts, I am definitely partial to Bishops so I would recommend you go with that class.
For what you are asking, either a spearman (which you alreasy have) or crossbowman. You asked for something blunt but with flashy skills, (all classes require skills) those 2 are more of the 1 attack and 1 buff kind of classes. Xbow's are great at mobbing and much cheaper than bows. After the new sauce comes in apparently they will become a bit better as well. Spearman are great attackers in parties. They don't require leech at all and can whack things from a low level to 150 better than any other. Lots of people suggested an arch mage or bishop and totally disregarded a few of your requirements. Be warned because they require more buffs and attacks as opposed to a simple whack and bash character you were looking for. Mages are the best at mobbing and bishops have the Holy Spell ability, but they definitely require more attention. If you want to make money though, suffer with the buffs and go with a bishop. (Which is what everyone would recommend for starters, except for the fact that leech is dedefinitely a huge help between levels 85 and 95)
