Everyone had their patch which they consider the best in the GMS, but almost everyone on this server also do not like the direction that the GMS took at some point, and thus play on this nostalgic server. What ruined the GMS experience for you? For me it was a mixture of the EXP being buffed to a point that there is no "early game", leveling up doesn't feel like an achievement, neither does getting a job advancement, jobs 1-3 feel useless, since you pass them all in a day or so, and all that matters is damage. And the game because more solo focused, pq's because useless and bosses became solo only almost. And lastly, was the new jobs. Every time a new job got released it felt like it was better than all the rest at every single point, everyone started getting necessary skills so they can solo bosses, no longer needing parties, every new job was more op than the other, and no class was actually unique, almost everyone got a mount/flash jump/wings or something at like level 10.
Big bang coupled with those stupid ass cubes and enhancements. The golden era for me was when the main 'training maps' transitioned from Gobies -> Himes -> Skeles -> Anego/BF. So prolly version 40-70-ish? Nothing better than the days when Zak/HT required multiple full parties who actually coordinated in Ventrilo. CB dropping sacks in DS while the priest healed and third body mobs gave everybody trouble. I cri
i didnt like how convoluted it became with content they kept adding content that practically no one participated in its overwhelming for people that try to play the game casually the community feels broken up now it feels like a single-player game because i hit level 140 without even talking to another soul the cash grab for more dps with cubes and potentials and all those things added on top of scrolling making maximizing your dps overwhelming
When EMS launched and they temporarily banned everyone outside of NA from playing Global. Then at some point you needed to enter your birthday to sign in and my account was lost forever.
I've played a small amount post BB between 2012 to 2014(although not compare to the HUGE chunk of hours between late 2006 to 2010) and the one thing they add that made me quit GMS for good was the Star Force enhancement system.
ksers, hackers and p2w. Buffing and nerfing classes constantly is pretty shit too imo. I cant think of many other reasons, but the ones I've mentioned are more than enough reason to never play again.
Even as somebody who spent quite a lot of money on NX, the Pay2Win aspect of the game just got too much... This coupled with the amount of hackers, and the hugely detrimental dupe exploits that were not handled well at all. It all led to a mass decline in playerbase, which simply made it pretty pointless to bother continuing to play the game. This open letter to Min Kim, by Spiral on MapleNewsNetwork sums things up perfectly imo:
I generally dub the era of Dual Blades as the beginning of the biggest downfall. Up to this point, it had always been pay to win which I was okay with. But Dual Blades began the era of pay to play. You needed to buy their equipment from the cash shop and the reward was that, the class in itself was incredibly strong. From this point on, it was all about releasing stronger and stronger jobs while issuing new methods to make money (i.e. potential cubes and such). I honestly think Dual Blades was a test to see if people were willing to pay to play, and once they found enough people willing to pay, they went all out into it.
Removal of secondary stats, accuracy, the rework of Victoria (and elsewhere), and their inability to balance new classes to be even remotely on the same level with adventurers. Oh and deciding to change all the skills every few years.
P2w, removal of lhc, ruining pqs, removal of most scrolls, and removal of classic skills. I think the last time I really enjoyed playing gms was sometime in 2011 when LHC and Monster Park came out, they were both really hard to do solo, and gave more xp with party play so it really encouraged you to get a group of 6 together and tackle them. At this time pqs were still relevant aswell from 50-100 something when you started to get into LHC levels. Teamwork is probably my favorite part of MS and MS right now is only a single player game that will only require a party for like 2 of the end game bosses. I also hate how every class has flash jump at level 10 or level 1, almost every class feels the exact same now. Pre-big bang is the best version of the game ofcourse, but big bang itself is not what killed the game completely for me.
Graduating high school, I thought about going back the next summer, but Big Bang had come back at that point and all my friends had quit. The high point for me was around the time 4th job came out, it really felt like a new lease on life for the game for those of us who had gotten up into the 130s and beyond with just third job. Wasn't particularly fond of anything that came out after that. I also spent about a billion trying to make a new bow (like an idiot) and didn't couldnt manage to get more than 1 30% on any of them, so that certainly didn't help.
