The 2nd private server I've been in was FarmerStory, it was an extremely fun and exciting server as well with very cool people(although not as nice as this server). It had a good balance until it suddenly got shutdown. This server is wonderful, I hope it never shuts down. :CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Nexon's lawyers found out who the owners were and built a case against them.

Back when i first started playing servers would only last a couple of months before getting dcma'd. My boyfriend tells me now nexon doesent give a shit to bother the private servers anymore.

Nexon doesn't give a buzz because they don't get money when they sue. Everyone's broke. It's a waste of their time.

I think servers stopped getting sued once Lloyd Korn left the building a couple years ago. Lloyd Korn was the toxic of Private Servers because he was sueing pretty much every Private Server owner he could find back in day, including the two biggest servers OdinMS and LocalMS which were the first two private servers.

Getting DDoS'd too often can lead to shutdowns.

This is true and false, depends on your VPS/Dedi server provider. Some indeed "shut you down" but that doesn't mean you are actually shut down. The worst case scenery would be that the dedi/vps provider was sick of you getting attacked and you didn't daily made backups which leads to you losing everything. DDoS has however nothing to do with getting sued and such things. However, the most proper dedi server providers just null route your IP ("time you out") , and all the connection to your server will be shut down for a timed period until the attack has been reduced or taken care of.

And the even more proper dedi server providers actually provide you with a firewall against it, but that is never 100% accurate IMO.

Pretty sure Nexon only goes after servers that is of threat to them. Example the current #1 private server. Other than that, I don't think Nexon bothers about the low version servers like they used to when Llyod is still around.

The original MapleRoyals did actually get closed down back in 2008 after being around for 5 months. However, back then, it was higher rate and much closer to the then-current version. Now it's a low-rate, non-profit making nostalgia server, and while it could theoretically be shut down by Nexon, they really wouldn't achieve much by doing so.

Most post-BB servers shut down due to Dream servers (along with others) trying to revamp classes that don't need revamping. They literally made like 4 servers in a year and all of them were just as bad. As for the other servers, dying communities/DDoS/bad staff.

Most Pay2Win servers these days shut down because they want to make more money by opening up again under a different name.
Most others shut down because the owner gets bored or can no longer afford to pay for it.
