Hey there! Figured I may as well post on the forum while waiting on the game to download and deciding what my first character is going to be. A bit about myself. I'm a fifth year computer science major finishing up my degree after deciding the life of a music major wasn't for me. I played Maplestory quite a bit back in high school with a few friends, but quit shortly after the Big Bang update. Life was getting busier, all the usual stuff. Recently I stumbled across some screenshots I'd taken back then, and decided to give the game a shot again. I downloaded the game client, logged in, made a fresh character... and realized that pretty much everything has changed. So, here I am! Haven't created a character yet, but will reply to this post with that info when I get there. I'm currently waiting on the game to download while also trying to decide exactly what I want to play. My end goal is eventually to main either a Night Lord or a Dark Knight. Both of those are classes I'd always wanted to play but never got around to. I figure I'm going to need some funding before jumping straight into either of those, however, so most likely I'll be playing a Bishop at first to build funds. I'd really appreciate any opinions on those two classes, though, as I'm still trying to make up my mind there. Part of me is leaning a bit more toward maining a DK since they're probably require less funding than a NL, but I may be wrong. That's just something I remember seeing somewhere. Anyhow, that's about it. Probably going to be online at some point tonight (or maybe tomorrow, since I'm packing to get back to my apartment tomorrow). Feel free to leave your IGN in the comments and I'll add you once I actually make up my mind on what I'll be playing.
Hello! It really really comes down to what you like to play. Mobility + 1v1 damage in exchange for a very high cost OR Utility/Good AoE dmg in exchange for a lower cost. For some, flash jump is a good enough reason to pick NL while for others, they like the idea of maintaining their health while zerking and having HB. As it stands, a DK will be infinitely more cheaper than an NL in terms of HP washing (if you choose to do so, and I recommend for either), cheaper books, and they'll also be able to grind at lower levels far more efficiently than an NL (esp if you choose to wash) which means you get to enjoy your character earlier! Also please note that NLs really need SE to have decent damage too so you'll be heavily reliant on having a bm/mm in your party while dks aren't restricted by that. Personally, I would make the DK as your first attacker class as it will be less commitment and you'll have time to build funds. Note: DK end game sky skis and NL claws are both about equally expensive iirc.
Thanks for the input, I appreciate it! I was definitely leaning more towards DK as my main due to initial funding and this kinda helped solidify that. I haven't done any HP washing before, but I'm definitely going to attempt it with my main. Most likely I'll be making another character as my starting point (currently leaning toward a Bishop there) to start getting some funds with before jumping in with a DK.
What's great about HP washing a DK (which I HIGHLY recommend due to zerk hp% requirements later on) is that you only need to have 18750 clean since you have HB c: I'm not sure about the exact specifications in terms of int, but there are some guides around that should help you find out!
