I hate doing the Zakum Jump quest

Actually hate doesnt even scratch the surface of how much I loathe it. I cannot do it. I simply do not have the patience to deal with it. I have tried for years to finish it on my own, but I just can't. I've always had friends do it for me. But as we are all well aware, sharing accounts on Royals is a big no no.

I would LOVE an alternative to doing it. Maybe a Donation of some form but then we'd have the argument of p2w

Or better yet an alternate quest chain where we must kill stuff and collect items in order to go around it. I dont even care if the chain of quests were long, tedious and expensive meso wise. Just something else that isnt what we currently have.

Or maybe have completed X number of quests prior or something. I dont know. But idea's are always welcome.

Zakum is borderline mandatory if you're looking to progress your character since it not only drops good items including the Zhelm, but abilities as well. And those of us like myself who do not have the fortitude to handle these kind of gates would prefer not to have to do them.

Maple should be fun, and this particular part of it, is not and has not ever been fun in my opinion.

    Edit:

As of 8/11 at 6:37pm EST I finally did the JQ on my own. In fact I did it in probably 10 minutes. After struggling for hours last night, im not sure where this came from. This certainly feels pretty cool to finally have done it. Not sure how ill feel the next time I have to do it for an Alt. Still prefer a less stressful way of getting around this part.

Even though this removes part of the nostalgia, I really like this idea. I've often struggled with this jump quest (make that all jump quests, I hate them all) and recently I had to re-do it because apparently my account glitched and it appeared as if I never did it. Luckily, @Succubus was there with me and helping. But regardless, I was still there for at least an hour (and getting quite frustrated I might add).

    This is not gonna considered being that is was in gms and this is gms like, also cus then zak wud b to ez. I personally think the jump quest itself is soooo long and a good idea would be this;
Cutting a portion of both the jump stages by a bit or alteast the hard parts or repetitive parts

I wouldn't like this, I enjoy doing the jump quest.

The alternative (not my idea) is an even longer questline.

BlueWkd, in my personal experience I've found the Zakum Jump Quest to be no problem for me. At most I fall around 6 times. If you're ever at all willing to try the JQ again, feel free to add my cleric, Ngooyen, and I would gladly join you in a party and guide you through it. :)

There are more reasons to have an alternative, someone might have bad eyesight or a medical condition, making the person physically
    unable to do the JQ.

I like the idea of a longer quest line. Perhaps kill 999 of some mobs near the Zakum entrance, like ToT. It would be more grinding, the exp isn't that great, spawn rate is okay, but it could cause people just to buy leech there to get it, although if they're low level and buying leech to get this, I'm sure they have a main with enough mesos to spare. <-- run on sentence ftw

Collect 999 Bain collars. I just did the jump quest today, so I might be biased.

Personally, I don't support having an alternative for Zakum Jump Quest. At the end of the day, this is a game, and you get rewarded in a game for playing the game. This is the game you chose, and the game does not become unplayable without being able to finish Zakum Jump Quest; you may not be able to get a Zakum Helmet or skillbooks because of it, you lose a really important part of the game, but that's a part of being unable to do something.

If you are not able to do something, you should not be able to reap the rewards of doing it. That's the way real life works, and that's the way I've always viewed the game as well. Is it cruel, or harsh? Yeah, maybe it is. If something like this got implemented, it wouldn't bother me past what I said above, since I can do the Jump Quest despite having trouble seeing shades of red properly. I just disagree with the principle of it, is all.

    Just my two cents.

I don't support it one bit, if I myself who has never completed the jump quest prior to royals was able to do it then i'm sure you can too ( mind you it did take me 2hrs) just youtube AyumiLove follow her youtube guide and you'll be fine.

+1 for reasonable suggestion. Jump Quests have always been a part of Maple that differs quite a bit from the rest of the game, game play wise. They require completely different skills from the rest of the game. Fortunately, you're very rarely forced to do Jump Quests in MapleStory in order to complete objectives.

What if a player for some reason couldn't do the Jump Quest, due to physical or psychological disability? It may seem far fetched, but I have a close friend who has trouble distinguishing the platforms from the background at places in the Zakum JQ. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and only focusing on the weaknesses (which those who can't do Jump Quests are being forced to do) seems very backwards. In real life there are, contrary to what Michael said, often alternatives, different ways to accomplish the same goal. And unlike real life, games are specifically made to be fun, so I don't think the two are really worth comparing.

Having said that, I do believe that should an alternative quest be introduced, it should be balanced so that only those who truly loathe Jump Quests, will feel it's worth doing. In short, just as hard as the JQ, if not harder; but another kind of hard.

As someone who actually can't differentiate colors at all or see any form of color transitions, I have to admitt that doing the zakum jump quest is hard and without help maybe even impossible. But we live in a world where we have many tools that can help you through these kind of things, and alternatives aren't always needed. The first time I did the zakum jump quest someone had to guide me through every platform showing and telling me where I could stand and where I could hang, and what was to fall from the sky.. This took a very long time but eventually I managed to finish the jump quest and honestly it felt good because I had achieved something that seemed impossible to me. Later on when I had to do this on more characters I knew I couldn't rely on my friends every time so instead I opened up youtube to check videos to see where other people jumped, how many steps they had set and then I would pause and try the same until eventually I'd do it. After doing this for god knows how many times my brain started to remember where and when I'd have to jump and nowdays I can even do it without youtube. (Though I still don't see the beginning nor end of the platforms, my character just floats around). I mean yes it still takes me a long time per stage compared to some other people, but my point is that it is possible to do this jump quest.. even if you were unlucky enough to have terrible handicaps when it comes to these kind of things.

So I'm going to give it a -1, even though I hate the jq with my life because it's near impossible for me to see what I'm doing on that map, I've done it 5 times on royals now and it does give a sense of achievement to me everytime I do manage to get through the entire stage. Giving an alternative to that would probably feel unfair to those with similar problems to mine who went through all the trouble to get this jump quest done. The only suggestion I could think of, if you really want to make it easier for people who struggle with colors, is to make a similar map to the zakum jump quest but with a different color pattern.. maybe really contrasting colors that don't blend in with each other.

This wouldnt replace the JQ. It would be an alternative. So if you're someone who likes doing it, you can continue to do it. And it would be the quicker route in the grand scheme of things.

Given the fact Demiosu mentions it as an alternative leads me to believe they are aware it's not a replacement.

It's understandable why you would want an alternative if you find yourself incapable of doing the JQ, or if you're tired of having to repeat the Zak quest line for every new character you make. But in my own opinion the JQ isn't the part that bothers me.. I don't particularly enjoy collecting gold teeth or doing the maze.. But i'm not going to suggest an alternative for those. I think in making an alternative it takes away the challenge of it all.
If you've never been able to complete the JQ i'd suggest guides as said above ^
Believe me, it's not as difficult as you may think it is, and if you've never completed it, it'll be very rewarding when you do.

Regarding the fact that some people simply aren't capable of doing the jump quest (such comments have been made above), an alternative wouldn't be easier than the jump quest. In fact, many of the suggestions posted here are less difficult but more tedious. For example, one of the suggestions was "Collect 999 Bain collars". Most people that are able to do jump quests will probably finish the jump quest way before someone is able to even collect half of those required items. (I believe someone posted them completing the jump quest in only 3 minutes)

Contrary to your last statement, I've completed it multiple times. Twice on Royals and countless times on GMS. No matter how many times I've done it, it's still the same level of difficulty. It takes me well over an hour, even with a guide and help from a guild member. Plus the frustration when constantly falling doesn't help either. In my opinion, I'd much rather spend the same amount of time (1 or so hours) to just get items so I can avoid the jump quest.

I do understand. Perhaps an alternative would be rather interesting especially since it could become a new way to not only grind but make some money off the collars for those who would rather purchase them instead of grinding for them.
Either way, my opinion is where it stands. I would continue to to the JQ even if an alternative was implemented simply because I don't find it difficult to complete.

the point of the jump quest is timing and patience, I did it both stages tonight for the first time in months at my fastest time ever just by being patient and timing the obstacles. it works, if you're having INSANE trouble, there's a video depicting how to do it step by step on youtube. practice pays off
