I remember thinking of levelling a fire poision mage. mostly because I could grind myself after maxing poision breath and poison mist. I did that to lvl 120.
however while I was training at petri. i noticed no one was there. it was literally me only. I want to know if I should stop working on my f/p mage and instead get a bishop ready to sell skele leech?

From my experience (got both a FP and a Bish and used to sell a lot of leech) finding Petri buyers is not nearly as easy as finding skele buyers. Petri leech is usually done only for lvls 105-108 even though from what I know - maybe it has changed - Petri is actually a bit better than skeles if you have good tc/rotation skills. Most people still do skeles as I think they are unaware that Petri is still very viable post 108.

On my FP I ended up selling either Ulu2 or Petris as most of the time it would take me too long to find purely Petri buyers. That drops the avg meso/hr as Ulu2 leech is about 30m less in total mesos vs Petri (including NPC for both - Petri NPC sucks btw)

One thing you have to consider is the cost of making a Bish for Skeles as nowadays most Bish selling are Lvl 155 or below, which would take a considerable amount of funding for eqs + Gen30 and Mw20 (probably over 10b total). I am also seeing A LOT of Skele sellers nowadays, so I am not too sure of how easy it is to find buyers, even more considering there a quite a few sellers lvl 145 or less selling 1 hit Skele.

One last thing to mention is that you could actually be a Skele seller with your FP. Magic needed is pretty much the same as for a Bish, you would just need a HS Mule which is not that hard to make. That would save you the pain of making a Bish and getting Gen20 + Gen30, specially if your FP already has MW20.

Are you sure about that last part? My F/P is only lvl 124 and currently in the process of making an HS mule.

but 10b for one skele leech mule? that seems a bit steep. so should I just keep my f/p or should I just use it for something else?

Petris used to be considered faster than Skele leech before they nerfed the spawns for the Ulu maps in Update 65 (April 2020), meaning sellers could charge a higher price for Petri leech (confirmed by Shiyui in this post from 2017).
However, since the spawn rate nerf, most people would rather just sell Skele leech since the drops are better, meaning more profit/hr. And Bishops have far more utility in general than Archmages, so people would rather fund and gear one instead, even if it's more expensive. According to this thread, the best Skele leechers are capable of providing over 40m+ exp for split leech, compared to around ~30m for Petri leechers. Now this might be due to the relative lack of skilled Petri sellers, but it's still important to mention that most pro leech sellers will be at Skeles due to the higher profit potential.

Someone may want to test out the exp gain from the 'optimized' TC rotations for each map discussed in these threads:
