the only rewards you (or anyone else) should be getting is a professional response from the staff members, meaning they do their job and ban the abuser. that's our rewards for those reports. a chance of a fair and clean game to all. nothing else should matter. because without fair and clean game, there's no amount of wealth in the world that would come close to the effect follow by clean game. so i strongly against of this idea.
All I want to see is a system with less red tape and hassle for reporting the "obvious" hackers. Often I'll enter a map, and see loot/ monsters in abnormal patterns (all on one platform, for example) and do a ~mapowner and it'll say some random person was there for over an hour. I then do a find on that person, and it turns out they just cc'ed. I then cc to their channel, and they cc again, with the new channel also showing the same weird patterns. We shouldn't need to have to try and capture evidence of these losers, it's too much hassle, and it'd be far better if there was somewhere we could just notify whatever GM is currently online to go and sneak up on them with invisible and deal with it.
Not enough GMs to go around though I feel the unnecessary complaints about pRoFesSiOnAlIsM has killed off the GMs
Agree 100% with this too. With the exception of the blatant hackers, it's not a good direction to go in.
I wish that for obvious hackers, all ill need to submit is a detailed ss or vid, without typing out the stupid report form. Like, from the ss its clear what is the ign of the hacker, whats the ign of the player, where it happened, and if you made a good ss, also when it happened (~servertime). Most of the times, the ss speaks for itself, and if it doesnt, you can write a note as well. writing the entire form is what drains me and makes me too lazy to report at times. If that would change, it might make hacker reporting a quicker proccess.
What about in the cases where it's impossible to even get a video cause they keep cc'ing every time somebody enters their channel? Why is even a video necessary? It's so obvious what they're doing. Surely we could just have a list where we can submit names for a GM to go check on themselves.
Hackers are not always online when a gm is. Its less intensive on the gms to be able to just read the report and ban a guy, instead of logging in and hoping he's online and hacking. (they can even do it when they are away from a pc on their phone). Never said a video is necessary. I only record hackers that are easy to record like the ones that hit the entire map. You just need an ss of a guy having a long ownership, with a timestamp, and maybe also show another ss of following his ch surfing and the scene he left behind in the short time he was playing. Just be careful not to report a map where mobs are magneted to one place, but there are no drops next to them, and the map ownership is short. as its also likely that a random dude passed by, killed something, and moved on.
The last part is also why GMs recommended not to kill vacc-ed mobs to reduce such misunderstandings Need more GMs to "reset" maps"
There seems to be this attitude in the world, and not just in this server, that some people are EXPECTED to put up with verbal (or even physical) abuse in their jobs. Really, why? Why are we saying some people need to learn to put up with abuse, instead of saying some people need to work on their self control and not be abusive? GM's are volunteers, and they don't deserve the abuse they get. How about you just quit then if you think the server should close?
So much this. I've never understood the horribly flawed "IT'S A VOLUNTEER POSITION GIV DEM A BREAK" argument when the staff aren't keeping up with their duties or are under scrutiny for not being active enough. If you don't like the work load/requirements of a volunteer position...just don't make the choice to volunteer for it, or simply resign when you can no longer/are no longer willing to keep up with the duties involved. Becoming a member of the staff is 100% a choice-a privilege even-nobody is forced into it and nobody is forced to stay a member of it. There are people who are still GMs despite the fact that they have been doing dick all for months now. Just give them the snip and recruit a new one as a replacement who is actually willing to devote the necessary time/effort. It's not like most GMs (not talking about devs/admins who actually have a skill set) have any special skills or qualifications to begin with, and if anything many even lack basic experience in a position of authority hence why they often create tension and hostility with their responses to basic questions or criticism (and are unable to handle said criticism without being offended/taking it personal, which is inevitably going to happen when you are an authority figure). Meanwhile we have people like Shane and Tim who do a terrific job, take on a greater work load than what should be necessary with the amount of members currently on the staff, and deserve to have some help from their fellow staff members. Eventually these guys are going to burn out from having to the jobs of multiple staff members as a sole individual while their fellow GMs log in once in a blue moon and do absolutely nothing to assist them. What benefit do players or even the staff get from having people remain members of the staff despite not performing any duties? It's one thing if they're taking a week long vacation, and another when they're MIA for literally months. The former is acceptable, the latter should bring a resignation so that another member can be appointed to the staff to perform those neglected duties. Should they return and decide to take on GM duties again, by all means welcome them with open arms, but having them hold a position with nobody else being sought out to fill it during their absence doesn't make sense at all.
You are correct that it is not okay for people to abuse GMs in an unwarranted manner. However, to consider that GMs are never abused is a naive thought, and "unnecessary complaints about pRoFesSiOnAlIsM" should be taken into account when volunteering to be a GM. There's no fault in not wanting to be a GM any more. Did I really say this? "Don't abuse people" and "If you can't handle the heat(warranted and unwarranted) don't take the job." are not mutually exclusive statements. Being a GM is not your livelihood, so I don't see where the real world aspect of this discussion has any relevance. Nowhere did I say that the server should close. I said that the server should close if the administrators don't feel like running it any more. I don't see what you're getting at. For the sake of staying on topic, no, rewards should not be given for reporting hackers/RWTers. Maybe if the rewards are insignificant it could be considered.
He's implying that if you don't want to be in a certain volunteer position, simply don't sign up for it, or resign from it. That should be common sense. He isn't wrong at all.
Are there actually many good GM applications though? Many of the people who would make a good GM, don't want to be one. I wonder why.
