It becomes clear that the third combo is the best when you consider the fact that there is a delay when you cast assassinate after dark sight. By adding a boomerang step in there, you're buffering an instant cast skill in during the delay, which is why it's faster.
To add to your comment, this is what it looks like when I try to use it: It usually stops for me after using Dark Sight (And yes, I just happened to also be in this map haha)
This discrepancy comes from the fact that dark sight requires a round-trip from the client -> server -> client to activate (unlike most attacking skills, which only need client -> server), so there would be a delay between you casting dark sight and your character officially entering dark sight (equal to your ping). Since you can only cast assassinate after you officially enter dark sight, the cast time of the entire combo should theoretically be max(dark sight cast time, ping) + assassinate cast time + bstep cast time. In the case that your ping is higher than the dark sight cast time, it can decrease your dps by a lot (~16% in OP's example---for comparison, this would translates to a 50 atk gear improvement by switching to combo #3). Combo #3 circumvents the ping issue nicely because it gives your client the full bstep animation time of leeway to get confirmation that you have entered dark sight, which allows assassinate to be cast shortly after with no delay, so your cast time is always optimal, i.e. dark sight cast time + assassinate cast time + bstep cast time. The OP's numbers are a little misleading, in that the cast times for combos #1 and #2 are ping-dependent and should be very close to combo #3 if you have low and stable ping, so you shouldn't be losing out too much because your ping isn't high enough to use combo #3. (If you have low but unstable ping, then rip your dps ) P.s. This is just my hypothesis, so there might be some slight differences with how things work exactly
I got an average of 64 frames (30fps) for using ds + assassinate + bstep and an average of 58 frames (30fps) when using ds + bstep + assassinate. This is a 0.2 seconds savings or a 10.3% increase in damage by switching the combo. You are my shad god now @DongHuang
