ok so i've been using the 1.2x drop rate to work on my collector quests for my BM and for a couple of days now i've been trying multiple times a day to get a map to hunt hoodoo/voodoo but they are literally ALWAYS rioddled with summon stopper farmers, i always felt like these are just the same people with a shitton of accounts that hog all the maps and today i got confirmation. this guy literally had the audacity to tell me im trying to 'steal' maps and going to get banned for literally attacking 1 mob 1 single time. and proceeds to admit that he is hoggin 9 (!!!!) channels. i personally feel like its not kill stealing if you attack a mob 1 time and see the map is owned by someone else and the immediately cc... also isnt this the whole reason they removed looting and map ownership from summons?? something needs to be done about this... my suggestion is make hoodoo/voodoo map just like event maps where u can only enter with 1 client. read the conversation i had with this guy and judge for urself.. i feel like i am not hte asshole here. If this is gonna get me banned for ksing cuz i attack 1 mob in 1 of his 9 channels so be it. but in the context of 'dont hate the player hate the game' i figured id post a suggestion to fix this
he's not an asshole for playing the game how he wants and farming stoppers on however many clients he wants. you can suggest for it to be changed but screenshotting some player's ign/whispers and consequently attempting to make him look bad isn't very cool. don't blame the player blame the game. The map ownership system exists and he owns the map so you're technically in the wrong. Regardless, if he's playing the game farming stoppers and you come and bother him to try to take the map even if he had lost map owner that's a dick move on your part. if you have to farm hoodoo/voodoo for monster book cards so badly, there are technically other places in the mansion where those mobs exist. If that guy was able to get 9 maps, you can too just try again later. It's not exactly urgent for you.
i think ur right about the ign thing so i redacted his name; mb. anyways the fact that i'm technically in the wrong and 'don't hate the player hate the game' led me to making this thread as im trynna get the game changed right?? i think ur not thinking in solutions but in workaround around this issue. i have bene trying to get a map for multiple times over 3 days and havent been able to get one... he may have been hogging all those maps since then for all i know..
my beef isnt neccesarily with this guy in question but with the way the game works and that he is able to do this (edit: and be technically in the right). the situation provided is just to provide context to make clear where my suggestions stems from.. i think we can all agree that this is a problematic thing right
if u need a map, i just finished my session. im farming with 9 clients and i have no problems with finding maps for all of them. mainly cuz i start farming at non-busy hour, when its literally all empty. you didnt do it just 1 time. u channeled through all these 9 channels that i was in and attacked mobs and only after that you used mapowner command. pretty asshole move if u ask me. ''killing 1 mob aint bannable'' people get banned for killing someones bigfoot, yes its a boss but still a mob. i didnt say that i would report you, that would be silly, i said ''its bannable''. it a shame you didnt include whole convorsation how ever, i told you how to go about it when all channels are full. just like most people do that farm cards. they ask if they can loot a card or asks to whisper them if card drops. lastly. there is a thread that is touching this very subject, you can share your take on multiclient farming there https://royals.ms/forum/threads/feedback-request-multi-channel-multi-client-farming.199137/
again; i personally think attacking 1 time in order to gain mapowner and ccing if seeing that it failed is/should not be a bannable offense. otherwise u as summon farmer can just quickly attack a monster when someone enters your map while that person takes their time to do ~mapowner. this makes previous changes to summons regarding mapownership completely useless. and i stand by that. imo bannable ksing should when you are aware of the fact that ur not the map owner and continue to kill mobs/take loot from that map. i don't think any other interesting comments were made in the rest of our conversation except for me calling you an asshole, which i again implied in this post. so no information was lost there. furthermore you indeed suggested some workarounds that have no direct solution to the problem at hand at all. so i don't think they add value to the context thats used to clarify the PROBLEM i was unaware of the existing thread and if forum mods want me to do so i'd happily continue/reissue this thread there.
there were days when 1-1 was not for everyone, and in order to get a spot u would have to spend decent amount of hours waiting / waking up early up in the morning to get a spot. if u missed the SC / a spot drop - you would have to wait for a few more weeks. camping was also a thing but I won't get into that. I once hated it, now I see why that's what makes this server & game so attractive. don't take it personal, take it as someone who teaches you what dedication is - and win you're ownership of the maps. The same way you had to win you're spot at 1-1. he's playing the game by it's rules - which makes him a good player. I see why you feel like it's a situation of "elite players stepping on the weak" but that's just you not willing to accept the challenge. as for the conversation itself, if indeed you posted half of the conversation to make you're side look right, I would edit and post the rest for killing the drama here. Good luck fam. edit: I might got this wrong about "elite players" on you're side, it was my interpretation and might not be the situation you're talking about.
i have no further screenshots of 'the rest' of the conversation but all the beans were already spilled; it was me calling him an asshole and him saying i should ask people if i could loot their cards. nothing more nothing less. there is no manipulation that makes any side look right or wrong going on.
I understand your frustration and this map causes a lot of interpersonal drama because of this very reason. Your frustration at the system is valid, since map ownership can be exploited. However, it’s the best we’ve got for a complex issue, and the person you had an interaction with was not “exploiting” the system for a bad reason. Suggesting to restrict clients in this map is a narrow-minded view of what is really the issue at hand. (And that issue can be explained if you read Joon’s or others posts in the Multi-Channel Feedback thread ). Farmers take more than 5 channels at once because that is what they have to do to earn a decent amount of mesos. I’m also glad that they are the ones farming stoppers for the community instead of botters or hackers. If you’re looking for cards, the library is a great place for that. You can also find many other mobs in that same map so you aren’t just hunting voodoo cards. Also, if you want to find an alternative for mesos, you can farm Maple Pops from Nightmares.
If he can get 9 maps and hold ownership of them for an extended period of time, you should be able to get one. You can also ~mapowner a map before attacking a mob. If you’re not trying to be an asshole and you know someone is holding multiple maps, you could also politely ask when they’ll be done and they could offer you a map. They’re human too. And if they say no, it’s 100% in their right to. In your own words, it’s not all about you.
What I did when I was collecting cards for those mobs was just cc until i see a card on the floor and then ask the person if i can loot it. I asked 10 people and 100% of them told me to go for it. You dont gotta hit the mob just ask for what you want and be given Gl with legendary collector
tbf still all i can see is people invalidating my personal experience of not being able to find a map with multiple attempts over multiple days by stating the disproven fallacy that 'if he was able to do it 9 times so can you'.. and also offering up workarounds 'go somewhere else' and 'ask if you can loot'.. these things have nothing to do with the problem i'm proposing; how can one player hog near 50% of a single map on a server played by 1-2k players, give you shit for trying to obtain one of said maps and be technically in the right? funnily enough this game mechanic was literally described as 'ultimately the game was not intended to be played in this manner and it does promote what we would call an unhealthy style of gameplay and also causes difficulty for others finding unoccupied maps to use' by the staff in the reference thread provided by the person i had this interaction with yet the majority of you seems to side with them/like minded players
this is misleading. this is a single map out of the HUNDREDS that exist in the server. yes it's almost 50% of a single map, but there are many other maps that exist to serve similar or identical purposes.
i don't think its misleading at all.. theres a reason this person does not spread out his 9 characters over similar maps with identical purposes.. this is simply the optimal map for hoodoos/voodoo cards and stoppers and you know it.. there's no reason for one or two players to be able to hog the majority of the channels and deprive other players of utilizing its efficiency
YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE jk, i used to farm stoppers. I was frustrated just like you, having 1 or 2 characters to farm stoppers only to see that the INFAMOUS ALS has taken 90% of the map managed to hold ownership for hours on every character ( props to them). I ended up moving on to other methods of farming. Not being able to farm stoppers to get voodoo hoodoo cards is not the end of the world, there's alternatives. Farming somewhere else then buying stoppers with the money you made. Wouldn't that have net you the same amount of stoppers? just sharing my experience from being in your shoes before
again; i know there is alternatives and workarounds; that still doesn't change anything about the persistent problem
Well okay then if the problem is you not being able to find a map to hunt voodoos for stoppers then dont lead the discussion with you hunting cards on your bm for card collection. Cant blame others for providing answers to questions you posed. If it was really about you hunting the cards you wouldnt be this upset about it because the cards are literally free and I have never seen any stopper farmer say no to someone asking for a card they dont need and just lying on the ground. Let me give my take on this because I believe as someone who only plays 1 Char and never multiclients other than for free market storage mules, my stance is as close to objective as anyone else can make it to be. I have nothing against multi client farming because Maplestory is a MMORPG after all and the essence of MMORPGs is the ability and freedom to GRIND. If you spend hours on the game you should be given an advantage over a casual player who doesnt spend hours on the game. Why? Because as they spend hours on the game you are spending hours doing something else for your benefit while they lose out on those commitments. If someone is able to hold a map on several chars, I think they deserve the right to hold it. Its not easy maintaining map control of several clients, losing the full immersion experience, dealing with people stealing their loot. I can understand why someone like you would be frustrated over this because lets face it, we (most of us) have jobs and irl commitments to attend to and we probably get a few hours to play an online game to unwind and destress. In those hours if we dont get to have fun it can be tilting. But we cant label it as unfair just because it doesnt accomodate your schedule. Just shift your free time to a period where there arent many stopper farmers. I live in Singapore and asian timezones are always peak times. I never had trouble finding a map though I rarely ever go to these maps. Let me give an analogy. If someone were to pay people to queue up for iphones or to buy concert tickets and as a result hog up 10 places on the queue, are you going to call them out for hoarding spots and victimise yourself? Obviously not because they pay people to hold spots for them. Its the same concept on this game really. They spend time and effort to hold these maps. If you still think its unfair that is your prerogative. But I'll gladly teach you the ways of merching if you wanna spend 5% of the time and effort and make 150% the profit of stopper farmers if you are interested. Or just go apq when theres nothing with a profitable margin in the fm. Apples are 10m now and easily sold.
1. There is nothing wrong with one person hogging 9 channels according to the ToS. 2. KSing one mob from already owned map is a bannable offense. Mapowner is there for a reason. 3. The reason why summon mob pet loot is removed is not to give people more free maps but to make people pay more attention to their client while summon farming. Stop whining. There is nothing wrong with @Tights doing his thing there.
