It happened twice already. I've donated 100 snow at first attempt and arround 500 on second one. I was hiting snowman from the very beginning, constantly. But I received mentioned information and didn't get a reward. Why?
Sometimes if you hit him with melee attacks, they won't work. You need to hit him from start (at least 80%) to finish. If you don't have stars (those that he drops), you need to attack him from the second he comes out, just to be sure. Edit: every throwing knives / arrows and etc, will miss the hit, so it wont count. do pay attention.
I had something similar happen to me. I was hitting from the beginning and then realized that I was using brown arrows as ammo despite being a mage (visually I had been throwing snow). I originally had a full stack of 2k and was down 300 arrows at that point. After noticing I switched to snowballs, but did not earn enough to participate. I think you have to be throwing snowballs and not other ammo. Not sure if being able to "throw" arrows is a bug or not.
I had no arrows, no stars, no ammunition. Checked twice before second attempt. I picked up snowballs the second they droped and attacked immediately. I didn't even stop for a sec. Not sure what happened.
if you’re an archer mortal blow will cause you to miss as well. the best way for an archer to hit is to stand in the body and hit it in prone position (hold down). mortal blow won’t trigger if you’re hitting it like that
