What did you just write? I have A LOT of conversations with different players about how royals is different compared to old MS. Most players play here because it's 1000+ players.

most players don't even have a forum account, but they give feedback inside the game to their friends.

Ships weren't in 2004.

why is royals advertising " nostamgic private server " on gtop 100 and other sites? Change that because this is like 50% nostalgic..

You can compare royals to a CD with a text on it " 2007 music " but when you play it and listen to it, it has only 2016-2017 music.

 

A solution is to just make the fast travel tickets non-expirable. This way, those who want to ride the boat/train can do so. But those who don't just have to buy a fast travel ticket once. Currently, fast travels are bugged and do not expire. I am honestly fine with this "bug".

 

FYI: Telling people to "wake up" is a very not-so-great way to change their behavior.

At the end, the server is doing exactly what Nexon did to us in GMS with BigBang.

Not to demean the extensive research you've done into understanding this game and community, but I too have some pretty decent experience with the people who play this game. I've been here since October 2013 and have known hundreds of players who play here on a personal level in my capacity as part of the high level community, as well as a former Game Master and Administrator for almost the entire lifespan of this server. After having people discuss and question the way that this server runs directly to me for so long, I've learned quite a bit!

 

Don't forget 10 years of up to date hair/eyes/chairs/nx and a shop in the FM that sells smega's/owls/tp rocks(yet for some reason cant sell AP resets) BUT NOSTALGIA REEEEEEEEEEEE

Nostalgia is great, it feels good for a while but it soon fades. All we are left with once it leaves is a 30min boat ride.

Not a lot of people care about drop games. If you do you can go to a PQ location for that 5 min rush before it gets old. We already have an FM to sell items. If you wanted to kill crogs you still could just like before. Most people are just going to one shot them in Royals so there is no nostalgia there.

 

Bb made everything more faster, showy and easier. Royals is changing, but it's going the opposite route.

Well you see, you've created what is called a "thread" on a public forum. So yes, that act has inherently invited everyone to share their thoughts and opinions.

That's how I feel about Royals and is why I never had true interest to play Royals. However, Royals going GMS-like now still won't make me want to play Royals, simply because there's still so many things that I do not like about Royals, and cannot be fixed without wiping the servers or adding a new world.

Royals seems to always have been a hybrid of GMS-like and not, but more so on the custom side. I've explained in a post before here why Royals can't become a GMS-like server and still can't.

Of course Matt explained long ago that Royals kind of happened because coding back in 2013 was much more limited than now, so to me it sounds/looks like Matt made success with Royals in a way he would never wanted, which he's been trying to correct now with his actual wishes, aka new source.

I know with his position how it feels to not be satisfied with your own product, so I don't think he's willing to revert Royals to what it used to be just to please his old/current userbase. The satisfaction of your own product is more important than the happyness of other.

As an owner its just the most important thing to be happy with your own server, no matter what, and unfortunately it may not be always what most of the users want.

Disclaimer: Obviously I cannot read Matt's mind, I can only relate. It could be completely incorrect.

 

And while I can definitely sympathize with wanting your own product to be something you like, it doesn't give you the right to be free from hearing the pains that you've caused. It doesn't mean we, the people who have been here this whole time, should just shut up and live with it. And it certainly does not give you the freedom to say ignorant things to the people who stand up and tell you that you're hurting them, much less worse.

I can sympathize with wanting your own product to be something you like over all else - maybe Matt should release old source to the world for another group to take it over and see what happens. So long as Matt is happy with his own server, what does it matter if everyone who was unhappy were to leave and have fun in other places? That way, he would be free from hearing the whining everyone he's screwed over, and we also wouldn't have to shut up and live with it. Royals was great the way that it was, no other server ever matched it, they were all different in their own way... and now even Royals is different too. All we want is our game back.

 

Although it takes both players and the owner to make the server an ongoing success, neither party owes the other anything. We're free to give all the feed back we want, and he's free to cherry pick or ignore any idea. Would you rather have the owners rethink their decisions just because most of the players are against it? That's what sell outs do.

I wanted smegas to continue dropping from monsters like they used to, they no longer do and my reasons for wanting them to be a drop is just as good as the owners reason for wanting to sell them from an npc. I still don't agree with the smega change, but the owners trusting their instincts still made a server where I at least agree with enough choices to continue playing. I'm glad they're open to ideas and not just a mob of players demanding things, because I feel that's what happened to the Original Maplestory and why most of us don't even keep up with it. Royals has been hinting at the changes of boat rides and fm buttons for years so it's not even a surprise to me at least.

 

But wasn't the majority of the playerbase extremely against the direction that the original MapleStory was heading? Isn't that what spawned OdinMS and the explosion of private servers in the first place?
