^^ I am not sure why my previous post was moved to the fixed/closed section. This still is a major issue for anyone who plays at this time (80+ people nightly).
Didn't happen to me today. I went to work at 4.30am GMT (5.30 CET) and my character was still alive and online afking in fm when I got home.
The server did lag out at 7AM GMT. It does not crash or necessarily DC you. If you are AFK in a mobless map, you can wait it out, but 50+ people did crash from the lag.
This happened again today at 7am UK time today, and it happened during a Zakum with no GMs online for a warp back.
Can you guys remember when this started happening? I've noticed it too, on the days I've been online, but I haven't been online regularly lately.
I think I may know why this is happening but need Matt to contact the host for me so I can check something out. I think I scheduled the server wide backup to occur around that time. If so, it may be hogging too much of the connection when it sends the backup somewhere else remotely and thus causing everyone to lag out.
Looks like it happened again at the same time today - main page is showing only 20 or so people online and players are reporting massive server lag. If your theory is correct, John (and it sounds a highly likely one), let's hope there is something that can be done about it.
As soon as I can get access to the control panel for the server (still waiting on Matt) I can take a look and give an update. Personally, I really hope that's it otherwise it's going to be harder to fix than expected
Could you guys let me know if this happens again at 7AM server time tomorrow? I MAY have fixed the issue, may not. But I need to know since 7AM server time is 2 AM my time and I would NEVER be on at that time
I didn't have forum open at the time, as I play Maple fullscreen. All I know is that I was in the FM and suddenly clicking on stores didn't do anything and I couldn't get out of the portal. When I finally got through the portal, I froze in mid-move and d/ced. I noticed that the number of people online (as shown on main site) plummeted to 30-ish people. I don't recall having any problems getting to the website or forum after that though.
