"I will never understand the beginner haters or naysayers, bc nobody is saying make beginners viable, even if my suggestions here were implemented, they're audaciously hard to level and leech, it's just a lot more fun to actually play." That's exactly how I feel about it too. It could never be a competitive upgrade where the beginner becomes some other class equal to the others, that would be absurd. Rather, as odd classes go, letting the gimmicks become a bit more fun, various in a weird way, not really in a "tryhard to be the best damage/min-maxer/bosskiller" type of way. That idea about a Nimble Feet upgrading (at a top top level of lets say 100 or 120) to something more useful or adding a [like procrastinya suggested] "Grant invincibility for a short duration." -- that might work in a fun, non competitive way (unless it breaks the game at places but I'm sure that's been thought out with that thief skill i cant remember the name of). [Attached a small reminder of where a lvl 88 perma is at; I haven't even gotten a mob to ride cause I can't manage to kill em fast enough.]
I just want something that encourages Beginners to sign on and do something besides just 'grind and hang out' (I know that's Maple in a nutshell, but...) Right now Beginners log in for Christmas & Summer for random drops, and Anniversary for most of the other stuff they need. You'll sometimes see a little surge if a GM offers island GM buffs. But if I were king of Royals for a day I think I would give Islanders a small PQ. Nothing ground breaking in XP, but maybe a 30+ Islander PQ that gave some exclusive stuff. NX gear/chairs/etc/pet/mount. Something just small and fun for the islanders to have say Friday night PQs or something. Maybe like a Beach PQ with a chance to get off season gear like Blue Maple Bandanas, or Beach Slippers. I also wish that level 70 Islanders could learn to ride a mount on the island, maybe an exclusive mount for islanders/accounts with an islander.
I really couldn't care less if beginners were 50x worse than "jobbers", or 5x worse - if beginners got buffed skills, new medals, chairs, 100% mastery... whatever. It's just that you chose to be a beginner, which is not a seperate job, it's choosing to not be any job. You could at any point click the warrior 1st job npc, and instantly get access to more hp, stronger attacks etc. Apart from meme beginner only weapons, there is nothing a beginners got, that other classes don't also have. So why not click that 1st job npc? Because you think it's cool for it to say "beginner" under you class - and i totally agree that it's cool, insta fame when i see a lvl 30+ beginner! It's just that chosing to play that class, solely because it's cool to be a meme, imo you kinda also gotta accept that developers might not really have you as their first priority, and other players wouldn't really appreciate development's on a "class" that's MEANT to be a meme. I don't think that makes people haters or naysayers. Go beginners!
