I'de happily do it I love helping out communities but there is no point in even putting in and application as the whole thing seems like just a popularity contest. As far as personal agendas go, I have issues with upper management that ignore the desires of the community, Also Gi does bring up good points, most account sharing is next to impossible to detect, and is only hurting people who have no ill intent with it.

If you really care about the community then stop only looking at the bad sides of not allowing account sharing because think about all the downsides of allowing it to rule over the lands of MapleRoyals. Livin' in scammer paradise is what I think it will be like. Instead you should find ways to try come up improvements to the rule that could potentially get rid of the bad sides it to it such as people who have no ill intent getting hurt. You never know whet that random guy is going to pop up and post a brilliant solution to that problem(I think this was the original goal of the thread, for someone to come up with a good idea for changes to help those people and not remove the actual rule). But that's just my opinion that I wanted to share.

Less repercussions of the rule = better rule.

How I would agree that a Perma Ban for account sharing is a little harsh, I also can not fill my shoes as a GM/Admin here, so it kind of brings me back to neutral with this. One thing I dig about the Staffs policy, is their consistency. Obviously everything is a case by case basis, but when a rule is violated, I have seen no popularity status quota that gets you a "get out jail free card". - And honestly, I see so many people unable to own up to their ban after the reason has been posted, not that it will change anything, but its about personal integrity. I can't tell you how many people I've dealt with in higher paygrades - pick and choose when they want to enforce something due to the kind of day they are having or how they like the person.

But hey now, I do dig TotalGlamours original post, as it was most constructive feedback here about wanting this change ;-)

John My point is that most of the people banned for account sharing had no bad intent and was for harmless reasons, i feel changing the rule from a permanent ban to an account ban or a suspention your guys choice wouldent be too much work. Im not asking for account sharing to be allowed, just to make the punishment a little less harsh. I understand why its not allowed, i wont argue with it even though 7 years ago i learned how to play maple from my bf and had to account share for him to help me, but i never ever thought of it as account sharing,he helped me make the account he knew my password and helped me clear my inventory of useless stuff that i didnt know was useless, put my stats in when i was confused just such small things. When i think back on that its actually really great memories, so harmless and the fact that people are this server would be perma banned for doing that i feel its just out of this world. Like someone said earlier people do much worse things like botting and vote abusing and they get 7 days, why is something as harmless as someones boyfriend/girlfriend/sibling/family member going on their account deserving of a permanent ban?

The thing is how I see it, there's no reason someone can't sit by you and explain how to do that or screen share to help. My boyfriend is currently in your old position- not knowing how to do skills or anything, so I sit near him and explain it. It works out better that way anyway.

there is no reason to go drive 30-40 minutes to go sit beside a friend and explain and show them precisely how to do something when you can just hop on their account and do it for them a a fraction of the time. All there is coming from staff is terrible excuses as to why it's a bad idea. Many people here see far more benefits than downsides.

I understand what your saying its just i was 16 years old, i couldent always have my boyfriend over and back then i wasent even allowed in his car lmfao. Most of the time it would 2-3am and id be having trouble. My point in the end is just its just so harmless, i would really love to see the punishment taken back to a account ban or a temp ban. I know that it involves work to do this and will take up staffs time, but i feel this is something that would be worth it in the end.:)

I know most of the feedback thread ideas dont tend to get implimented but i really hope this is something the staff could discuss and really think about changing:)

Ever heard of screen share? Join.me, Skype, team viewer.
Also I'm laying in bed on my iPod right now, hence the short replies.
The only time I see account sharing even worth doing for is the zak jq- as some people can't do it in their own or struggle for hours to do it.
Also for the record, my daily schedule is similar to johns: I wake up and take my iPod to catch up on the forums and Skype before I'm even out of bed.
When I'm fully awake and had breakfast I log in game, check for hackers, check for people botting, an check the last ~gm messages. That in itself usually takes an hour or two alone.
From there most of my day is spent helpIng the forums, answering questions, and occasionally going and doing a pap run or two on my legit. Sometimes I log out and go and role play with friends but even then I get sidetracked by helping with gm stuff.
We didn't sign up for "work" even though that's part of it. We applied because we cared, because we wanted to help. You never know just how much work is involved already- as a player you only see a glimpse of what goes on.
By us saying it "adds more work" we don't mean just a few more minutes. It would muddy the waters when it came to -other- issues as well.
What if you shared accounts and they hacked on your account? What if they ban appealed? That's twice the work to figure out who was actually hacking- the original owner or the other person. Sure there could be a disclaimer that you're SOL if anything happens- but who actually reads and follows those? Few people do.

I think it's unfair to say it's nothing but bad reasons being brought up by the staff as the whole picture isn't visible to you the player. Here's a major technical hurdle that would need to be solved before we could even look into changing the account sharing rule.

If an account is banned, anyone else trying to acces that account would be banned as well as the account owner when they try to make a new account. So the simple workaround would be to delete the account if it is found account sharing but that raises the possibility of an account being deleted and a ban being reversed with the player being out of luck, or the account being deleted, and the banned user starting the same account and character again, which is fine but allows for abuse as you can offload your mesos and items to another non banned account, restarting a new account, and then transferring it back. If someone would like to have a Skype discussion about the technical hurdles, I could probably speak for at least an hour on this alone.

At the end of the day, as Sila said, the current proposal as it stands would result in even more work for the staff when we are already heavily taxed as is.

Back then those didnt exist, but i get your point. I know you guys work hard, i never doubt the staff because we can see the work your doing, we can see you guys replying to threads all day and helping in game, juggling both. I know you volenteer your time and im gratefull for that. To have a staff that actually take what they do seriously and are strict on those who break the rules/harrass others is rare and is something that was refreshing to see when i joined this server.

But really im not asking for account sharing to be allowed, all im asking for is a reduced punishment,

My reply was mostly aimed toward Digestive, sorry for the confusion. Quoting is hard on my iPod (but my dog is being cuddly so I can't get out of bed :p)

    2 solutions.

1-Make the first offense 14 day OR MORE ban *this would make sure the point of account sharing not being allowed is made* Second offense permanent ban.
2- Permenant ban the account untill the case is reviewed when fully closed delete the account and unban the ip.

You guys are treating botters and vote abusers better then someone who shares an account, it doesent make sense. I understand you guys have a heavy workload but please this is worth giving a shot and looking into. Give us more of your concerns, we will find solutions, we can do some work as well on this. It seems like alot of the community agrees and would like to see this implimented.

Also for your heavy wordload, have you guys ever thought of maybe adding more staff? You need a new forum mod since kat has been promoted and you could always 2 or add another gm, it might help take a load off you guys.

As for adding staff- me and Ashlee were just recently added and Annie returned to us. Robb and I look over the forums (especially since I'm addicted to forums anyway). Im still settling in to the position, learning and getting used to how things work still.
Total: my dog never cuddles either. So I'm stealing the chance while I can :p

There is a problem with account sharing if it's a common practice. Using just three people in the following example.

I think it's easy to see that with more people the ban of one person can spread through the community and get a whole lot of related accounts banned.

So simple solution, Change the way the ban system works so that it only bans the account that was being hacked with instead of banning by mac address or not banning someone for attempting to access a banned account. or add a 3 strike system to Mac address. It's not like changing a mac address is hard. I don't understand why it's even used as a ban method

You're kidding me right? Changing the ban system isn't a snap of the fingers. The current one I wrote to function the way it does took days to figure out and write. That's not a quick job.

Additionally, you would be opening the door up to hackers just being banned on one account, quickly opening a new account, and hacking over and over. Again making the staff's job so much harder as they're going to have to be doing far more bans and ban reports than they are already doing.

Those hackers you're worried about making a new account , all they have to do now is change their mac and make a new account which takes 10 minutes as is.

It would appear as if you have a comprehensive ban system already coded. Please PM it to me so I can talk to Matt about implementing it.
